they making 6million a year turn over and they want to hand over 16-18k a year to you eh? hmm what exactly is your job description. I think they taking you for a ride mate, that not exactly a small company, small company offering 18k not bad, but one turning 6M a year?
I'll be part of the marketing team, so I'll be managing all the media buying and doing the email marketing. You're forgetting just how expensive doing business in the UK is, before you even make a penny you're having to fork out 20% VAT and then 20% corporation tax. Then you have the cost of marketing, the cost of staff. It all become very expensive very quickly.
I don't think you realise or appreciate just how challenging 'real' business is. They'd be lucky if they made 10% net right now.
Exactly, I mean I know a lot. But I by no means claim to know everything. All my success has been emulating what other successful people have done. My motto is let them take the risk so you don't have to.
I'm a pretty risk adverse person too, and a salary will add an extra layer of protection when IM income continues to be hit and miss. It also allows me to get out the house more, meet new people which will have positive impact on my physical and mental health. Long periods of isolation does take its toll on you after a while.
16-18 is awful but I've looked at the digital marketing market in the UK and that's pretty normal, I was shocked at how low they pay. It's quite different to the IM we know too because it's far less creative and much more about using tools, monitoring etc. Probably a great education in PPC though.
So it sounds like you're working for an agency then? Because most companies outsource their digital marketing to agencies to do for them. Few handle it in-house, they just lack the expertise. Easier for them to hire someone else and say "give me this ROI" and that's all they care about, hence why most of it is PPC.
If you're young then you have more patience and can work chump change. I recently quit a job because I'm too old to handle getting shit money to do shit work anymore. But when you're young and hungrier, you'll do almost anything!

Well i live in the UK and I also work for a media company too, granted am only few grounds away from your starting salary which is getting increased in a week time.
But am telling you for a fact, corporation tax, all the tax bullshit, get taking into account, if you have a good accountant, and there is a huge profit margin in media company.
Sales team get what your getting paid now, at the end of the day if experience is what your looking for go for it, me initially in my job it gives me experience on how to handle multiple clients, beside that, I brought my own experience learnt from different forum to the business.
Edit to add, read other post where people saying money doesnt matter, maybe yes if your single, but when you have family of like 5, you would be saying otherwise that money matters.
Anyway goodluck, and open your eyes as well.
This isn't a media company and I know their margins are pretty tight, it's pretty competitive niche they're in. I also have no degree, so this job was won off my own merit with no help from a university degree. This was all my own making as such.
Money is just a tool, I already own everything I've ever wanted. I like making money because I find still find it exciting. But spending money doesn't interest me as much, I'd much rather save and invest it.
If I ever own a house it'll be an investment, and it'll have nothing in it apart from a blow up bed, sofa and my computer set-up. Including a few other bits and bobs all of which could fit into the back of a car. Also if you have absolutely zero crap in your house, like no TV for example (western addiction) it forces you to get out the house and go get a real life.
We all work throughout the day, and then choose to lock ourselves inside all night like cage animals, I just think it's so sad. There's a whole world out there and so many things you can do that cost nothing. Instead of sitting even more in-front of the TV killing yourself.
That's just how I roll.

Disregard what people think about your salary. As long as the job gives you a way to become better and expand your future options, it 's worth it.
I agree, thanks a lot too. I think some people are forgetting the economic conditions we are in, and just how tough it is to hold down any job right now.
Congratulations on beating all the graduates and the more experienced candidates who are reducing salary requirements so they can get a job.
In the UK 16 - 18 K is quite common for the type of job you are referring obviously depending upon experience. It is extremely difficult to get a job at the moment especially if you have less than 2 years experience. I suspect you are in a similar position to myself a few years ago with a lot of experience building and marketing sites so I had a great portfolio but not much in the way of work/office experience actually working for someone was my main problem. Personally I would grab the job with both hands and get as much experience as possible.
