I was wanting to get out of the house so I headed to Starbucks to get some coffee and honestly just to be outside. I was sitting down with my laptop sipping on my coffee when an older woman came through the door. She went up, paid for her coffee, then looked for a place to sit along with her husband. Next, well, I guess it was out of some movie. She see's where I am sitting, my empty bag is in a seat(I never do this) and she yells out in-front of 20 people " WTF, can't you get your shit off that spot as others have to sit here". I am from the old school, I respect my elders but also know there is a polite way to ask me to move my stuff. I responded, "how about you ask in a nice way, I am moving my stuff now" She yells out, " Good, wtf, no one here has respect for anyone anymore" I stated "I have respect but as a fellow adult, I think you should show me the same. She proceeds to sit down next to me, I can feel the anger inside of my body, and next she tells me" Listen, I am sorry I yelled at you, I have cancer all in my body, I am just losing it" I told her, sorry I had my stuff there and if you want to just talk I am here to listen to whatever you have to say.

I guess to make a long story short people come in and out of our lives and we don't know the reason but showing patience and empathy can make another person's day. She thanked me for some reason and told me to pray for her. Again, we are all human, we all say and do things that are not always polite but deep down inside we all have a common bond.

It doesn't matter if she has cancer, she should not treat people like trash. Don't let people treat you that way and get away with it. I'm serious.

This is when you should sit down for a minute, and think about a saying, that goes something like "Before you judge someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes."

If she treats people like that, she deserves cancer.

No dude I know what you're trying to say. There is no reason for being shitty to people unless they have done something against you. In this case you have done nothing.

As someone who has had too deal with cancer.....I think your replys show a lack of compassion. You do realize that she is most likely terminal? See how positive you would be, if you knew you only had a short time to live. When cancer hits you or a loved one.....your whole world turns grey for a little while....you walk around in shock. You also feel anger at the world, because everyone seems so happy and normal and your life has just been shattered. If your lucky, you get control of yourself and accept the circumstance and decide to fight. Judging from what the OP said in his first post, she probably just got the news and was in the anger and grief stage. So cut her some slack.

Great post OP. I am from NY as well and I know how everyone, young and old, can be pure a-holes sometimes, but it is a good idea to try and always remain calm because you haven't lived in anyone else's shoes.

That's a horrible thing to say mate. The point is, she has cancer and its obviously stressing her out to say the least, that's the only reason she reacted that way.

No one deserves cancer.

BULL SHIT

Hitlet, Stalin, Gadaffi, Husain, Osama, Matt Cutts

Just because those people are a-holes doesn't mean that you should wish cancer upon someone.

You want the world to be a better place? Start with yourself.

So you are saying that her being rude puts that woman on the same level as the others on your list? (And for the record, I would also argue that Matt Cutts isn't on the same level as the others either - massively annoying, yes... Mass murder? No).

The only thing i can say you did good thing i don't care what other people said or what their opinion are i see my grant parents all my life good to us and give us every thing we ask as the child (Like Toys etc) and before they all died (God Bless them) they become impossible to even talk but all we all kids do is to do whatever they say and keep them in our payers in their age and their health issues and with all the problem they faced all their live we don't have any idea of that we just got all things in our life as we ask from our parents (I am talking about Me and My brother and Sisters and Cousins). in their last days we always try to make them happy and do our best .

Everyone needs to start being nice to each other - most horrible people are only that way because someone was horrible to them.

Hatred breeds hatred.

Sorry to bring out this hippy shit, but we need to start looking out for each other :-)

Matt cutts isn't even so bad - without him SEO would be boring and anyone could do it :-)

And equally I'm sure he really loves us as well seeing as we keep him in a job.

Actually OP, I think you had a pretty nice reaction, I can't see anything rude there.

understand, be friendly, love, smile, be happy, don't judge, don't get mad, don't hate.

PS. MrNewbie - it's always good to try and not over-react to ppl when they are rude. As you found out, there could be something else causing it that you don't see. It's not always possible because we don't like ppl being snippy at us... but in the end - I'd rather be 'a nice person' - I know it helps me sleep better at night.

OP is a decent person.

To those being fast at throwing judgement, just remember how it feels to be in pain. Whatever pain, ie. a headache. No one who is in pain/distressed acts all nice and polite. No one does. Not even other animals. Have you ever had a pet in pain?. They become aggressive. It's not personal. Dunno, maybe it's because of the cramps that I can relate (not that I'm grouchy, I'm the quiet type).
