Notes: 1. you can skip the first 2 paragraph's, that's just me ranting
2. Main points are bolded so if you don't want to read this all just read those.
Just a bit of background, my old Toshiba laptop has died. I'm 21 years old, I must of gotten it when I was in year 10 and it was my brothers before that so it must have been a 6-8 year old laptop but it still worked fairly well. It worked well enough for me to start earning some money and still be useable for highshool and uni.
It was on it's last legs though, without the cord pluged in the laptop would shut off automatically (it literally has no battery life left), most of the time if the cord didn't work either (it took me about 5-10 minutes every time I wanted to change locations to just plug it in, admittedly I usually just left it in a position that worked at home but with people coming and going in my room that never lasted long) and finally the blue screen of death appeared and I decided that was it. It is the closest love hate relationship I have had with a piece of machinary, I loved it when it worked and I hated when it didn't. It feels hard to throw it away since it is the first machine I made money with, hell it was that machine which led me to Blackhatworld (if you wanna know how that works, lets just say that since I could easily reformat it and there was already so many problems with it I never hesitated to..."explore the dark side of the internet" and just experimented with different programs etc)
But that's over, super main point I am able to afford a new laptop and I want your opinion on what is the best type of laptop to use for IM and still use for uni work. Just note I have never used any other laptop than Toshiba, I have seen friends with macs etc and I have never really liked them, plus they cost an arm and a leg and most of that your paying to have an apple product not the actual product. I am able to sped $1000-$1500 though if it is a really worthwhile machine I might spend a bit more. Also I am Australian so prices may(definitely will) differ in my country because everything is more expensive here even if I order form overseas and ship it (though that's still cheaper than retailers)
Thanks for your help
