What laptop would you buy?

Dell XPS (yes it slightly on the bulky side) has been working great for me, so can recommend it to you. I am not a big fan of macbooks.

I've got a mate who swears by dell, of course the first thing I noticed is the price (Still within price range
) just looking at the 15.6 inch screen (I don't get why they still use inches but hey America still uses pounds and miles....though that is not saying much) and I think it will suit my needs well.twister360

Another vote for the Dells.
Get a Precision model though. They're the ones designed for power users. They are more 'mobile workstations' than just laptops though.
If you really want a good deal, get a factory refurb on eBay. Most of them are 'as new', fully refurbed by the factory, and come with the full warranty. You can of course try and get one off the Dell Outlet store, but I just find it easier to get one off eBay.
The m4600 is the 15", while the m6600 is the 17'. These have the 2xxx Intel processors.
The M4700 and M6700 just got released, with the 3xxx Intel processors. You won't see much difference in performance though between the two. Save some money and get the M4600.

I have Dell 15 inch Lappy 1550 series with linux installed on it. It works like charm. If I update the laptop in next year or so I will be doing the upgrade to say another Dell laptop because Apple and some other brands are hard to have local repair and support for me. Dell works just fine. Never going to buy HP, horrible experience with pavilion edition laptops.

i bought about 10 new laptops ultrabook netbooks and whatever they are called nowadays since march this year..
i have used some of them only for days. some for weeks. only 3 of them over a month.
and my vote goes to the "asus zenbook".
choose the i5 version. its more than enough really. if you need more power (for whatever reason) go with the i7 version.
macbooks are ok, but overrated.
I LOVE the zenbook. that little sucker is superthin, has a non glare display (for working outside) and has literally no weight.
when I leave the house I sometimes forget its already in my Bag

Damn I leave this thread for one night and it explodes with good information. This is what I love about BHW. Judson and Icemantaz make some good points. It is looking like either Dell or asus for me. It is strange for me because I have only ever owned Toshiba but I have had bad experiences (particularly with Macs) with other brands before
