[CASE STUDY] Sending Scrapebox Blasts to Your Money Site

I had been blasting from around June 17th up to around july 8th every day with scraped AA blogs- i would get around 200-400 livelinks a day on average.
I did this on a keyword that had been stuck in the mid teens i hadnt worked on for a few months.
Up to this day it hasnt made a jot of difference. This is really low comp as well.
I was told a cpl weeks ago that aa blogs are now nofollow mostly and doing a nofollow check with sb tool sure enough showed 95% of them were.
So i dont see how we can expect much from that crap now...

New Keyword: 0 to 97
Longtail version of Previously Ranking Keyword: 113 to 8
It's been about a month since I started. I will no longer be doing blasts but I have already sent a couple hundred thousands links to the site. In conclusion, it seems that sending Scrapebox blasts to the site can have mixed effects. Chances are, my previously ranking keyword dropped due to an overoptimization penalty because I used only 2 anchors. The competition for that keyword was also way higher then the one I just started to rank for. While these blasts had a negative effect on this keyword, they had a net positive effect on the longtail version of my previously ranking keyword and the blasts also helped my new keyword rank #97 from nowhere.
I took a rather careless approach in executing this. I wasn't trying to rank so much as I was trying to understand the validity of generic negative SEO attempts. Had I used hundreds of anchors as well as inner page URLs, I think the effect would have been completely different. That being said, negative SEO attempts can actually benefit your competitors.
Let's hear some thoughts on everything!

I did not bother to read anything besides the ranking update but come on.. Everybody knows that if you don't diversify your anchor text you're getting slapped sooner or later..
You should've put many variations, a lot of them, and tell us how it goes.

Dude, you missed the point of this case study. It was NOT to try and rank. It was to see the effects of EXACTLY what I did.

Interesting study, and thanks for sharing your results with the rest of us. I am in total agreement with you that had you used more variations of anchor text the results would have been different. My own testing confirms this.
Let's assume for a second your case study was a negative SEO campaign. Your loss in rank, for your primary keyword, would likely expire within 90 days and would return stronger. Let's also assume Google Webmaster Tools already had a link disavow option in place. How many hours do you think it would take to disavow all those links?
My theory is that a good portion of Penguin is to apply negative link juice to paid links. By only applying negative link juice to those links that Google has personally identified as being "paid," it reduces ones ability to conduct negative SEO campaigns using widely available free links. This is how Google is likely limiting the impact of negative SEO campaigns. While many people would be willing to knock out a competitor by blasting them with free links, how many will open up their wallets and spend money to buy paid links in bulk?
One could argue that negative link juice could be applied to free links as well when a site receives so many backlinks from certain types of sources in a short period of time. Footprints and trends are difficult to hide when "blasting" any site. Even if the user names, profiles, etc. are changed, most people blast by source and that leaves a footprint. For example, many blast Wordpress blogs all at once and their links are discovered on pages that say "Powered by Wordpress." The same applies to social bookmarking where all of a sudden a site gets a bunch of backlinks on sites that say "Powered by Pligg." The only way to avoid this is to drastically change how links are built and slowing the process to cover ones tracks. These footprints were not an issue in your case study, nor were they in my tests. But it is one way negative link juice could potentially evolve in the future. Adapt now to be safe later.

Website 1: Blast 50,000 links with 1 anchor text, 1/30 days a month
I tested this one on a site which was ranking #3 for its local term (geo+service), now that site ranks #1 and has been for three weeks...except I only blasted 10,000 not 50,000 links at once. (Same anchor throughout)

Anyone who is pretending to do anything related to SEO and hasn't done this 'test' himself should stop attempting anything at SEO, this is as basic as it gets, it's one of the first things you do, and also one of the easiest tests.
You people do understand that SEO does not mean fiddling around with some KW optimized article on 1 domain, SEO means testing, testing, testing, more testing, and when you are so goddamn sick of it, you test some more, you buy a few hundred domains and test any possible setup you can think of, *BING* there's your winner, that's SEO...
But keep reading forums and pretend to know anything of SEO....

Pretty harsh. A lot of people cannot afford to do that kind of a large scale case study. There are people from third world countries and part time SEO enthusiasts here. That kind of elitism really doesn't help. The recommendation is great but the last smug comment maybe wasn't required.
