You obviously haven't had one of these sites that got kicked in the nuts.

If you have a high quality content on your site, unique one written by professionals, high quality unique design, older domain with high pr rank, only high quality backlinks, and stuff like that, you have nothing to worry about, this update could be even good for you. Google is sick of copy/paste sites with tons of spam backlinks.

Hey Barry, I wasn't saying that people needed to overly stress out about the next Penguin update, but I'm happy to give more details. I was giving context on the fact that lots of people were asking me when the next Penguin update would happen, as if they expected Penguin updates to happen on a monthly basis and as if Penguin would only involve data refreshes.If you remember, in the early days of Panda, it took several months for us to iterate on the algorithm, and the Panda impact tended to be somewhat larger (e.g. the April 2011 update incorporated new signals like sites that users block). Later on, the Panda updates had less impact over time as we stabilized the signals/algorithm and Panda moved closer to near-monthly updates.Likewise, we're still in the early stages of Penguin where the engineers are incorporating new signals and iterating to improve the algorithm. Because of that, expect that the next few Penguin updates will take longer, incorporate additional signals, and as a result will have more noticeable impact. It's not the case that people should just expect data refreshes for Penguin quite yet.

IF Google continues on their path they will just make more enemies in the IM world....even those of us who provide quality content on our sites will get drop kicked by Google for paid advertising slots and google owned sites.. this makes the search results biased and unreliable... sooner or later the average user will catch on and simply stop using Google... BING/YAHOO... will take over the market and hopefully they will be more keen on working WITH US instead of against US....

This is what I have been saying for months now.

If Google does what you are saying, people will (eventually) give it about as much respect as they give infomercials.

They will move to other search engines who offer more quality results.

Google will eventually become a paid search engine with 96% of the organic traffic opportunities lost. Instead of dumping shitloads of money in Adwords, use the money elsewhere on Bing, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Google Search needs us as much as we need them. If/when webmasters actually bond together to say no to Google, then maybe the revenue loss they witness, like we have recently, will remind them of the fact that it is our money making them filthy rich.

Removing sites from Google's index is not what I'm talking about as that does not hit them in the wallet. What I'm talking about is a direct pullback on Adwords spending or removing Adsense from sites. Outside of another search engine rapidly taking their marketshare, that's one of the few ways to hit them in the wallet. A class action lawsuit regarding the link removal requests would be another way, but I've yet to see any of my URLs named in a response from Google. Otherwise I'd kick in a few grand to help push the lawsuit out to sea.

Getting scared about every seminar this ape talks at is as productive as getting intimidated with every fortune tellers 'warning' of the end of the world: it's the end of 'same ol, same ol'; the world will keep going and so will blackhat techniques. They will just have to evolve and adapt.

It's called evolution people. Things change, people change, heck so does the weather everyday. When it's gets colder outside you put a jacket on and ADJUST yourself as so many other people have mentioned already.

Also, as long as you are providing quality content (none of this BS MNS for quick money quantity over quality money) doing the proper marketing, going above and beyond what others are doing you will be just fine not only in Google but in every facet of your life. Serious IMers see Google updates as a help to clean up the noobs that trash the results. Yes, as you reading. If you want to remove my rep go ahead. But we all know people are joining to make money online, but they don't take 5 minutes of their precious life to read a post/guide and understand how things/tools work. Then you see them 10 days later posting "I 'm broke, things are not working. HELP!".

Not only their noobness hurt them but hurt others too. Because they are leaving the footprint behind that could be read and used against others. A bot like Senuke/SB/MS/UD etc are only created to increase your power and make your streamline process easier, but in the wrong hands could hurt many people. Take a gun as an example. The gun gives you the power to play God, you could take someones life in snap. The correct usage is to defend property or hunt for food. But this gun in the wrong hands could kill innocents, even the carrier.

That's why I say SEO is dead (the process as we know it). We have to evolve so much to stay making money is becoming a headache. Not one single website I have work in the last year, I have not seen the need to removed any "bad backlink". Yes, some adjustments need it to be done, because things where exposed.

So please Google, yes give us a couple of hard hitting changes so many noobs go get a job, and others take 5 freggin minutes to read how to use the tools. To this day, I know people running senuke that don't know what a VPN or Proxies are.

I disagree with all of this. All these "updates" have nothing to do with the actions of noobs, copy/paste sites, or who is using Senuke wrong. Matt Cutts' response represents the elitist and cocky attitude that google has. This has to do with greed. Major corporations are always looking for ways to beat out everyone else and make more money. Anyone who thinks that google is in this because they care about their users/customers is being duped. They have these "updates" because 1) spammers and bhatters have a knack for knocking out google's precious Amazon and other corporations from dominating the serps for every keyword phrase known to mankind, and 2) it forces everyone else to buy google ads.

Matt Cutts' response represents the elitist and cocky attitude that google has. This has to do with greed. Major corporations are always looking for ways to beat out everyone else and make more money. Anyone who thinks that google is in this because they care about their users/customers is being duped.

This is basically correct... this attitude is prevalent in every facet of what google does. They really, really like to break laws and play outside of the bounds of generally allowable behavior. They do this, until some government body cracks them upside the head, and then they pay a fine and move on (this has happened 4-5 times... so far). Google considers this "part" of making money, as the fines are almost always low (in the 10s of millions)

At any rate, the new Bing is undoubtedly the better engine as far as relevancy and quality of results. Unfortunately, Google is allowed to pay browser developers billions/yr to capture 80%+ of users as the "default" engine. A Grade-A monopolization lesson.

What can disrupt this is Apple creating their own search engine, which I (and most SEOers) would undoubtedly love to see. However, despite their nearly 100 billion in cash on hand, they still have not done it.
