Remember to post tweets with links when your target demographic read tweets, get them retweeted and do not forget to ask for RT's - the more eyeballs see it the more likely you are to gain links and people to read the articles/webpage etc...

Isn't asking for people to retweet your tweets a little needy? I think it's worse asking them to... not everybody takes it the right way. Just my 2 cents.

There's a difference between asking "people" to retweet vs. asking other businesses that you are networked with. Mature players understand that the best way to getting favors is to do them for someone, so being asked for a favor (like a retweet, or whatever) is more of an opportunity than an inconvenience.

Bookmarked, thanks for this. I too am in the process of using Twitter for SEO and this post brings up a lot of good info. What I'm doing is creating my own army of Twitter accounts and letting them age and get followers so that I can let them retweet links among each other. It's a good idea to look for real people and ask them to retweet, but I figured it would be easier if I had my own "people".

Twitter is the future being part of the new internet.
Google started a new internet implementing Panda, Penguin and Google +.
Old methods won't work anymore, it'a a matter of time.
You should start learning and using G+. You'll find there integration
with Twitter as a social signal and so you must use Twitter very carefully,
without robots and similar "patents".
Twitter is more important than Facebook because it's very friendly with:
MOBILE, the emerging new internet.
You must learn how to use this combination, do not forget that you won't
be able to change your history there.
