Plus with his creation, could end up being as wealthy as Gates. Somehow, though, Google probably isn't all that worried with their thousands of computer scientists developing a bigger and more intrusive search engine.

Why do you honestly think Google is bad?
Lets look at this guy in the video and lets assume he goes on to create a competitive product for Google. He captures more and more markets share which means he will need more servers.
Those servers won't pay for themselves so he will need venture capital. Venture capitalists like to see returns, so this new company is going to need revenue. Revenue streams mean ads on the main product page, which being a search engine, means search engine results. Advertisers require value for money to keep paying, so this means displaying results in prime realestate.
So are they going to be any 'better' than Google by providing more organic search results space? No.
Now as they spider more of the web and get really good at providing users with what they want to see, then everyone will want to rank first. Are they going to be any 'better' than Google by letting you rank at the top of the search results? No. Only 1 person wins that game. 1000 others are left yelling 'class action!!!!' because they are not coming first.
Next, black hatters will start hitting the engine trying to game it. More people are using this engine which means spending more time trying to rank in it. Crap starts rising to the top instead of quality pages. Will Google be any 'better' at keeping a clean results page? Perhaps - they might have penguin style filters in from day 1. And if they did not, then at some stage they will have to clean their db. If they don't, their clients stop using their services. And their clients are their searchers - everyone else comes second. After all, no searchers, no search engine.
Now for anyone who says ... Google screwed me over ... my response is "What a load of bullshit". They are not bitching because they got screwed over, they are bitching because they got caught.
When I see a comment such as 'better than Google', I can only interpret it as "I hope they are dumn enough to rank me first so I can make money but smart enough to build a better search engine than anyone else". Isn't that a contradiction though?

Monopoly means than no one else can enter the search market becaue the law makes it hard for it. Monopoly is not "he 's so rich, kill him cause I 'm jealous".
So, do you use bing?

I just hope there is more competition for Google so that if any website takes a hit for whatever reason (doesn't need to be blackhat related), the traffic decrease is less as it is spread more evenly.
Somewhat like my web browser where I used to use Internet Explorer almost exclusively. But nowadays, I use Chrome and FireFox as well and if any one of them screws up, I easily have a replacement. Competition.
Two points on this -
1. Google has plenty of competition for someone that is looking for something. When it comes to organic search though, it is not a question of competition, it is a question of competent competition. The other search engines have less market share primarily though providing users with a poorer user experience. Ever tried Bing lately? It is getting better but still behind in how quickly I can find what I want.
2. If you rely on one traffic source such as Google search engine results, then you are taking on more business risk than otherwise warranted. Diversify and look for other parallel sources.

Actually, what you are saying is true. I probably didn't bring my point across well enough. Better quality competition such that the traffic for each search engine is pretty equal.
