.info vs .com

So, I'm about to start scaling my autoblogging method. My first site, which is generating like $20 per month, and getting a few people a day is a .com site. My question is whether or not any has experienced any difference in performance from .com and .info sites. I used to advise clients that .coms are easier remember, but since this is an autoblog, I don't really expect people to keep checking back.

So, I can get .infos for cheap, but is it worthwhile to buy .coms for indexing purposes?

Your correct with what your saying, as their auto blogs, their really isn't that much point spending more on a .com, stay with .info's

And TLD's are treated the same in most SE's eyes, so don't sorry about indexing.

This isn't my experience. When I've built similar sites the ones on .com have done much better in the search engines than those on .info

Does anyone know if Boogle has taken a stance on one vs the other? I haven't really found much help on the rest of the web.

People on SEO Chat Forum seem to think as far as an indexing standpoint, there isn't really much of a difference either way.

If you are just setting up autoblogs then .info is a good choice. If you are building a website that you will be putting alot of work into then .com is the best option. I have not noticed any real difference with ranking between .info and .com. I have .infos that are ranking well for my keywords, but a .com domain looks better and is easier to remember.

personal experiences my .com's have been ranking better than my .info

what i usually do is have a farm of .infos point back to my .com

However once your .info is crawled the differences becomes much less. I over power many .com with my .info sites but, keep in mind I do the proper SEO to sustain it.

If your unsure perhaps buy one of each, give it a month and see what you find.

i agree that .com is usually a better choice, even tho its a little more expensive. i think a lot of ppl are wary of .info domains. for example lots of craigslist ads ive seen that are obvious blackhatters goin for CPA conversions usually use .info, so people associate .info with junk

Demon, my experience has been the same. It's important for people to remember the difference between being INDEXED and being RANKED (many people glaze over it like its the same...when it's anything but).

My *.com sites get spidered more quickly and indexed more deeply vs *.info sites initially. However, after a few months, your backlink building SEO efforts will matter more.

Since it only costs $10 extra tops to buy a .com, I'll go .com everytime for any site that I'm actually going to put any "soul" into IMHO

exactly what I was thinking. For some reason people have the idea that people who buy .infos are in it for the cpa conversions and/or can't afford .com domains because there site is junk. Go with .com, there about $9 USD if you are going to be making let's say 1-2 dollars a day it'll pay for itself in no time.

My personal experience leads me to believe that .com's will always rank higher, faster, and have more sustainability - and believe me I've tested this out. Now that's just my two cents on what works for me but here is some other info to consider.

Pretty cool info from the supposed experts. I'm not sure how expert they are but the info makes sense. Here is what one of the "experts" said:

I havent noticed any differnt i have 22 .info sites all doing about the same thing as my .com names 12 of plus .info is way cheaper

From my experience .info's are OK. But I get much more traffic on .com's and Google does a better job of indexing them.

not only that but .info's arent as cheap as you think. the whole 99 cents or $1.99 offers that go along with them are usually only good for 1 year. then your back to paying 10 bucks a year again. Of course different registers price differently...

I dont go beyond .com or .net unless I'm experimenting with traffic or whatnot. would never use a .info for a main site of even a blog. they still dont have much credibility yet in the eyes of a lot of people, and might appear spammish to a lot of people.

The extension is less important than the domain itself, with the right keywords and if it's easy to remember it's even better, who knows what you're going to do with your website next year...

The money that you save on a .info lasts only for a year, typically.

That's good enough for spammy bh sites that often last a lot less.

So there is a chance that in the future, they might get penalized by SEs.

So for a few more bucks, and assuming that you find a decent one, I go for .coms unless I want a disposable domain or an important one that has the .com already taken.

@rocksk, you bring up a good point about it only being cheaper in the short run. I guess the thing I was worrying about was getting a ton of sites up and them not producing, but still paying for the registration. I didn't think about .infos going back to 10.

Base on my personal experience and what i have read on many forums, .info tend to rank signifigantly lower on SERPS than a .com or .org. There was a time when registrars were giving away 100 free .info domains and people were grabbing these like crazy. Now they're selling them for .99 and people are creating large automated networks.

I dont know doodles official standpoint on it, but i would imagine there is some form of lower rank given to .info. Its not that surprising, they give a higher rank to .edu and others so why not a lower for .info.

Just one thing that is quite important with a .Com domain against a .Info is when people type in the search bar of their search engine and do not know the extension .Com always comes up first,

example:

www.blackhatworld

will return

www.blackhatworld.com

first

There is another difference in coms and infos that no one else have talked about.

Com domains ranks on google.com
even if the hosting is not having a IP address from US.

But have .info domains and have your hosting in Canada and most traffic will be from google.ca

This does not happen with coms.

So if that was the case and you wanted to target a specific region, could you buy hosting in that country and host a .info on it to get targeted traffic from that region? Or could you just do the same thing with a .com, host it in a different area and get traffic from the local region?
Ex. Say you wanted to geo-target and use virtually identical content (but different by SE standards) and build sites that would get clicks in UK, CA, and AU (or whatever australia is) but also have sites that could use FR where large portions of the population speak/understand english. Would it be easier to just use the national .co.uk or .co.fr?
