Should I fire my SEO guy?

So I contracted a White Hat SEO guy who himself is ranking #1 for the keyword that I searched him out with. He claims all is completely White Hat and he limits building links to 20 per day for my site. He's relatively cheap and pretty confident, provided some references too. So I hired him. I gave him 4 keywords to rank for and I expected a monthly report. So I waited full month while I was tracking the keywords all along. My 4 keywords didn't see any, even minor SERP change - not even dance and just stayed around the same area where it was a month before.

So I asked him for a report, the guy was cursing penguin updates and all that. I asked for an update on work in progress at 1 month mark. He reluctantly gave me a list of 250 directories. A bunch of them were from the same country but 99% were submitted and awaiting approval. Then he tells me latest update has devalued directory backlinks and he found out 3 weeks ago about that change. So I asked him why he didn't change his strategy when he found out, he did not have an answer.

At one point the dude says that my site is ranking in top 100 for the keywords, then ran a SERP check and came back with top 400 - so he didn't even check on rankings during the 30 day period?

The guy also goes about saying how he had to hire more people and was paying out of pocket for m yproject - although all I see is 250 submissions in 30 days.

At this point he knows that I'm cancelling so he begs me for more time. Says SEO is a slow game - I understand that but slow doesn't mean ZERO, SERPs should change somewhat, somewhere and linking should have been done during that 1 month time.

I gave him more time but changed my reporting period to bi-weekly. Two weeks later I promptly received a report. This time it's about 100 social bookmarks on random sites and two or three descriptions are used, no spinning. The report also had 50 article submissions. Article was written very well but I only found two articles repeated throughout 50 submissions - 1 article per keyword targeting 2 keywords in total.

Now, At least I have received progress because 50 articles in 2 weeks is way better than 250 directory submissions in 30 days. As of today, my SERPs for targeted keywords are sitting somewhere top 500 to top 400....

What should I do with this guy? I'm not in a contractual obligation or anything. Is this guy using automated software or is he actually doing proper white hat work? I could redirect that money to BHW!!!

Advise is appreciated. Ask me things that I may have missed out on.

:hmmmm2: How is he White Hat if he's building links himself!?

That's a different topic for another day. I guess the main difference is building links manually versus automatic. White hat in my opinion should also be the method of selecting and screening types of links and source where they come from. For example, many of the directory submissions were from the same country where my site is targeting, which is a very nice thing to happen but only if they were approved.

Stop wasting time and money on this guy that clearly doesn't update his old strategies and will only harm your sites. Lol I bet you would have more success with Fiverr.

You've not mentioned anything other than "building links". Has he not discussed with you a broad, overall strategy? There is more to SEO than creating backlinks.

250 directory submission in 30 days wow! white hat you should have a variety of links and not focus on Directory submission alone in 30 days.

Yes, I forgot the onpage SEO he did with me. He instructed and I followed, that was the deal. Basically, I already had all important meta tags and stuff in-place. He added geotagging to posts with an addon. He gave me tons of pointers and tips, he's always available on skype and always willing to talk. Overall an awesome dude. On-page optimization was decent but I'm afraid he doesn't even remember my website address and i'm sure he hasn't revisited or checked on my on-page optimization after the initial touch-ups.

I hope he's not charging you over $200/month. If so fire his ass and call me lol

It's around the 200 mark. That one another thing that bothered me. Why so cheap? I had received quotes ranging anywhere from $1500 to $3000 a month, then I find one much cheaper - this guy!

$200 for this? Fire him! You're better off buying services here on BHW.

Do you even know what whitehat is? Whitehat for $200/month? I don't even do blackhat for that price.
Fire him, learn SEO, hire a guy who knows what he's doing. Or atleast hire an honest person who knows what he's doing.

How much do you think 250 directory submissions cost? Hint: fiverr.
How much do you think 50 article submissions and 100 bookmarks cost? Again, fiverr.

You should've been more aware of all the scam going on in this business, that price tag itself should've been a big red flag.

It's either he really sucks or he doesn't know what he's doing.

dont mind but according to copmetition there are guys who can charge very less than that.

Dude you are getting ripped off... either learn SEO or buy trusted bst's.

He just takes money without work. Some lazy little slob. Fire him to the Moon
