Where to learn web design?

http://www.w3schools.com/ go there, that all you to get to be able to learn web design.
get a book and read the basics then go thru the w3schools. html and css are very easy. just be careful if u watch videos that they are up to date with the new standards. then move to jquery, you might want a small intro to javascript first...just the basics..hit a torrent for some books

I think learning web design or development in a class room setting is a waste of time and money. Pick-up some books and start reading. The most up-to-date information is going to be in books not some fossil teaching web design or development when they were practicing it 5 or 10 years ago.
That said, HTML is not very difficult to learn. Like anything though it takes a significant amount of time learn well and truly master. This is especially true in regards of writing valid, semantic, minimal mark-up. For now though just pick-up a good book and go from there.
The other technology that plays a significant part in the design of websites is CSS. However, writing CSS well requires at least an intermediate understanding of HTML. So you should first learn HTML than begin picking up CSS.

it's too bad myspace isn't the way it used to be. i learned from there, just changing the css around.
although i understand everyone's logic, i'd recommend finding another site like that; one which you have a profile page, but can change the look of it with css. it's much more fun when you're starting out and after you get comfortable with that html is laughable.
if it's not fun, it'll probably be tougher to learn. just my two cents.

Nice tips all-around!
I want to learn something advance though - In Admin area,I have learned how to create custom elements, and store the new values in database (and even retrieve them there -- in Admin area), but I don't understand how to make places for them (those boxes, placeholders, whatever they are called) on the custom page by using CSS, as well as how to fill them (import) with those stored values (from the db on to the custom page). I hope I made my difficulty look as clear as I could!
So can you tell me where to learn about it? I tried in G of course, but without proper terminology it didn't gave me those sites that mattered.

My son is a master in these things, a real pro, and we together already have created a uniquely designed pro site and it's working really well .... But I want to learn these things on my own without his help, just to prove to myself that I am still capable of acquiring knowledge on my own although I have real helpful people on my side. Call it my effort to stay young and creative!

Yeah true.
I realized though, I learned coding from lynda but didn't ever look up web Design, do they offer good courses on that too?
The best place to learn is on your butt, practicing on any free work you can get for experience, imo.

I've been meaning to get my feet wet with WP. Always getting requests to do WP sites and I have to outsource it and my guy is too expensive to ever land the job xD
