Facebook is about to buy Opera

I doubt this will happen after reading this article:

Still, several obstacles remain.

Opera founder and top shareholder Jon S. Von Tetzchner said the firm should focus on organic growth.

"I want Opera to focus on growth and delivering good results; there are big opportunities for Opera," Tetzchner, who holds 10.9% of Opera told Reuters. "We have been promised 500 million users by 2013 and I think that's a good goal and the firm should keep going for it."

"I personally think that an ARPU (average revenue per user) goal of $1 is even modest," he said. "I am not pushing for a takeover."

Tetzchner said he was not aware of a bid and had not decided how he would react to one but added it would be "undemocratic" for him to try to block it if others supported it.

Another obstacle could be Google, which has extensive relationships with Opera.

"A takeover by Facebook will likely send cold water down Google's spine," Arctic Securities said.

Google is Opera's default search partner for Opera Mini and Opera Mobile worldwide outside Russia/CIS, making the firm a key relationship for Google.

Have always used FF, its the best. If FB thinks by buying a browser will solve its mobile browsing issues, i dont think so. Its just another acquisition after instagram.
 
They already are a search engine with people's info database.

I wonder how much Opera is worth? They already paid $1billion for instagram, which couldn't have been worth as much as Opera, not even close.
 
I wonder what this will do to Opera Mini, Opera's mobile browser. I love using Opera on my galaxy. Hopefully this doesn't affect it.
 
Opera is my third string browser. I use it for downloading torrents on the odd chance I need to.
 
Well if not Opera, there's always that Facebook phone expected to come out next year. ;)
 
Facebook is internet pollution. They infest and kill everything they touch. Their becoming way to big.
They claim their " Social Networking " But that is a load of it...Just try to add someone on it to meet
new people ! Myspace was social networking because at least you could meet new people. Facebook is a
" Keep in touch " service and sucks for meeting new people or from a business/marketing angle. Horrible...Horrible...Horrible !
 
FB is going down. now, the deal with instagram seems is a scam to pump its IPO price. wait just see their price after their revenue report. the "news" to buy opera, another try to save their IPO price. they will buy more soon to keep people think they are in "good" shape.
 
We will have to wait and see how his acquisition goes with opera. But your totally right in what your saying with track record. End of the day its who's the best master miner. I think zuckerberg needs to make an account here and learn from us lol

Sure Zuckerberg can join BHW...But to be fair he must provide a phone number for verification.
A government issued ID. And He CANNOT by any means contact or talk to anyone unless he knows
them personally or a banning is in order. I think these are fair terms...At least they should be fair in
his warped view of a community or social networking website. :p

Opera Browser is the most secured browser for desktops and smartphones , some time some minor bugs appear time to time , If Facebook will buy it will destroy it for sure , people are using it because of security and a big parts of web developers and software developers using it for his unique functions , the best browser for desktops and the best for phones , to bad if this will happen :(
