Over Optimization Penalty Launched Today

Mine did the exact same thing. It peaked before taking a massive dive.

I am back for another rant! - It makes me feel better.

SERPS are really really fucked. So today I look for a wedding photographer in my area using the keyword 'photographer'. mmmm wonder what I could be searching for? NO I did not want to read the wiki article explaining what a fucking photographer is (spot #1). Or read about Photography on the National Geographic website (#2) Or a online resource for photographers (#3) Position #4 in fairness was Maps so not so that is still working thank fuck! or read in the Guardian a fucking news articles about photographers! (#5) or look at a website for a photographer based 500 miles away (#6), or a local camera club (#7) or read the British Journal of Photography publication (#8) or visit a made for adsense page (#9) or finally read an article in the Telegraph about Sony fucking Awards (#10)

Rant Over!

I have three websites hit.

Website 1: Money website. Lost all of its rankings on the homepage and a subpage that I used as a landing page.
Website 2: A microniche site. Went from #1 to #10.
Website 3: A microniche site that Google never liked - sometimes it peaks for a month, then drops, then comes back a month later. Not sure why. Don't really care.

So... now its looking like website 1 has recovered one of its ranking. Its lowered a bit for a 2nd keyword. The 3rd keyword was the one I whored out that most; it was terrible anchor link distribution, and that has not recovered. The root domain is now ranking for keyword 1, and a really crappy subpage has been ranking for keyword 2 since the update.

Website 2 went from #10 to #9, then to #6 today, and so far seems stable.

Website 3 is no where to be found as to be expected.

Other websites climbed/did well/nuetral effects from this update.

So my strategy of "wait and see" is so far partially working :P if there are lots of crappy pages ranking, I expect Google will be fixing this update and tweaking it for quite some time. So those with bad rankings need to hold on out. Those with good rankings.... don't get too hopeful yet :P

One of my remaining sites that actually rose up to page 1 on the 24th has now dropped to page 3 within the last hour.

Anyone else seeing any movement?

same with me, one of my sites that survive on 24th now dropping to page 3 about 3 hours ago :(

A Google employee watching the Penguin update being released...

One of my main money sites went from #3 to #1 a day before the update (as you could imagine I was thrilled) and then BAM straight to #67.

There is absolute crap on the first page. The only bright side is my video is #1 lol, it's not bringing in nearly the amount of traffic the site was at #1 though.

I had some sites go up, some go down slightly and some went down a lot. Heres some info which may help someone figure out the algorithm change, all my sites had 100% unique content on them.

  • All of my EMD sites went up and down randomly. The sites that did not have EMD also went both up and down.
  • Templates didn't seem to affect the changes.
  • Most of my sites were heavily on page optimised, exact keyword match internal links, very high keyword density etc - A mix of these sites went up, stayed the same or went down a lot.
  • My sites with the highest amount of unique content/pages went down a lot.
  • My older sites got hurt more than the newer ones.
  • New sites with EMD and just social bookmarking went up.
  • Some sites got destroyed for some keywords but went up for their exact match keyword.
  • All sites at my work that only did Directory submission and high quality guest blogging on high pr blogs went slightly up, none went down.

Instead of complaining everyone should post up as much info as they can about what has been affected, if you used one link type on one site but not on another which went up let us know, that way we can work out the fastest way to get back to #1!

Most of my sites stayed the same or are climbing. 90-100% seo on page. Pretty much WH in nature onsite. Picking random products in my niche and just talking about them. Picking different questions I see on forums and answering them on my posts. Doing some content curation. Normal stuff. But I've ALWAYS been bad(too lazy) to get backlinks.

Most of my sites are 30+ pages and I ONLY inner link when I feel the need to show the user something that may interest them.

Most of my sites only have 150-200 links that are from webstat sites, a couple bookmarking sites, maybe some diggs maybe 10 forums and 8 web 2.0's. 2 or 3 ezines, maybe 5 other article sites, some people publishing my articles from ezine on their sites, scraper sites. All in all, pretty much all PR0 and PR1 sites. Maybe 10-20 nofollow low pr blog comments on relavant blogs.

I really slacked in link building. So, for me, I just wrote a site up that I thought would benefit the user(by sending them to my adsense or amazon for products that they need LMFAO) and I lacked link building.

For my sites, I know that I'm stable right now because of my lack of Offpage SEO. No doubt about it.

BUT I remember this SAME thing happening to my sites during Panda. Shitty sites went right to the top, then it took a bit, but things came back to a more normalish result. My anchor text is prob 10%. As I do not have EMD's and no real frontpage, I have about 90% deep links and 10% Root links. I wait until I see visitors, and then I go to statcounter and select the MOST POPULAR pages. With that data, I start linking in that order. Most popular pages get the backlinks first.

Anyhow, thats where I'm at. Not sure what to do next, but while I'm waiting, I'm building up some quality(content at least) First tier web 2.0's.

That being said, I'm 100% sure that my lack of offpage SEO is gonna Bite My Ass in a few weeks when things are back to "normalish".... We will see.

Can you earn $1000 a month making sites with no links, and write like 3 500 words articles per day yourself?

What intitle competition keyword can you rank for?

I ask because no links seems to be a good (and probably the only) way to survive all google updates. I do not want to build links and the unrank all great content i wrote.

all my rankings dropped about an hour ago. any1 else had drops at that same time?

It still unstable even at this point. Mine is bouncing back and forth in page 1 and back to position 1 and vanished and come back again. Hard to tell right now.

Otherwise, it's just webspam PR being put out by Google to exhort to others about how considerate they are about 'the user experience,' when the real goal is to protect Big Inc. getting the top rankings, while making everybody else dependent on Adwords to get a top spot.

Yup, yup, yup. You just hit on my biggest pet peeve. I agree with you 100%.

Are you on crack?
3 500 word articles would take me 25 minutes to write.

Hell, I make how much you want to make every month, in about 6 hours (averaged right now) and I still write my own articles! It's faster and better than employing someone.
The biggest thing IMO this panda update has done is stopped me from using blog networks... unless they're at least 2 tiers out. I will stick all of that content on my sites instead.

Maybe you are the one smoking something with your constant boasts when you should actually try to understnd what he/she is saying???? RE: making sites with NO LINKS to rank and make money while writing 3 articles PER DAY!...because he/she is worried about building s site WITH LINKS that will later tank.

Stop smoking that pipe (dreams) of yours and read what people are saying as almost every post you make this days is super disrespectful and most people banking dont boast about it every 5 mins not that i even believe you are making $1k every 6 hours = $1.46 Million a year and can't even read a post properly.

Everyone talks about money on here, no surprise there.
Not building links to a site is a dumb idea... I've been doing nothing but this since one of my largest producers dropped on the Feb 26th update, and have only seen increases....
These sites are thin, with <20 URLs indexed and 5 or fewer articles.

So it's not that I misread his post, it's that his question was absurd. I can guarantee he will not make $1000/month, or in 6 months for that matter just writing articles over and over on various topics.

I see no indication that posting more = better SERPs... Once every few days per money site is ample. Outsource it if you want, but I keep all of my SEOing on my desk and outsource the shipping/programming/networking/customer service etc. I have had nothing but terrible experiences with outsourcers for content and SEO work.
