G was F***ing with the magic. Ask any conglomerate. They have been getting an astronomical resistance from mainstream media. "Giving an opportunity to the small guy! Thats not what our system is all about..." or should be about... in there eyes (Big B). They have officially joined the oligopoly. It's like when stock markets went electronic; the arbitrage opportunities shrank to almost nothing. They still exist mind you (if you feel like watching charts and market stats all day). Algos and penny at a time strategies are what work now for that. Arbitrage opportunities in SEO are shrinking by the day... But hey, there's still social media. Go Facebook!!

A site I just built and did almost nothing but high PR manual links to with random anchors is outranking wikipedia.
So I would certainly disagree... I doubt google is actually interested in supporting brands at the expense of site designers, only because to do so will make them less and less relevant as time passes.

Sorry I forgot to add the meat. Press releases on authority news sites have been doing really well. I'm in the insurance niche and my content is significantly superior to these press releases and i'm getting slaughtered by them. Proper PRs are expensive thought. Pretty mainstream if you ask me.

One of my sites dropped from #2 to around 90, now it's back to 17. Another site completely disappeared form the top 100, it was at around 10. Another site jumped up 2 spots from 8 to 6. Thankfully, my main site is still holding all of it's rankings pretty strong, and may have even jumped up a few spots. Hard to say because I have a few SEO services currently being performed on the site.
I was pretty upset earlier, but after reading through some comments on this thread, I think I'm going to leave it be for a few days and let the dust settle and see what happens. As far as I can tell, it's just one big-ass google dance today, no sense in getting all worked up about it right now.

Apart from that My rankings are un effected at this present time:
1) Always use quality Niche RELATED articles that are fully readable and make grammatical sense on your tier 1s, your just asking for it if your using unrelated and/or highly spun crap that is un readable.
2)Social backlinks are proving to be the wayforward, Book marks, FB, Twitter etc.
3)Its safe to say Blog commenting is well and trully DEAD.

I know someone who went crazy on blog comments toward a domain and survived well to this update. He used a great link diversity and anchors variances though.
I believe there is something wrong with crappy web 2.0 properties somehow, they show up in results but the website they link to has dropped. Isn't something wrong in the link juice given through different tiers.
Can they correlate the traffic and the numbers of backlinks ?
If for exemple the number of backlinks a day is superior to the traffic received on the website, isn't it a strong signal ?
THis is the place i am at, at the moment.
Who performed massive pings of their backlinks and went through the update so far ?
For those who passed the updates and those who doesn't, what does web 2.0 properties looks like ?

This update will never stick. It's too easy to spam sites Google thinks should have higher ranking.
If we make competitor sites have the same kinds of spam backlinks our sites have, Google will be forced to rethink its new update.
If they continue to reach down to the bottom of the barrel for un-spammed sites, we'll just spam those too until we equalize them and level the playing field. Google will back off quick.

Well he may be lucky but judging by the way they are singling out NHSEO which is effectively a blog commenting tool and the fact they have already devalued those links long time ago, i think its very un wise to use them. I mean theres so many other types of quality links that can be built without doing blog commenting, especially when more and more comments get added the link juice is reduced each time. So in my opinion they are a waste of time but a few quality ones can be added just for a bit of diversity.
