Sites Gone? Google Update? WTF

One of my sites got hit yesterday, dropped from no 1 and 2 spot for several keywords down to 50-70. It hasn't returned back but hopefully it will soon.

This was on the 18th whilst most of the posts in this thread report this happening to them on the 16th and rankings returning back on the 18th and 19th.

Anyone else experience the drop on the 18th?

Well, I checked rankings first time yesterday (18th) after a week or so, my rankings are gone out of top 100 and still aren't back.

If you close look through this thread all the names with more posts got done and all the people with less posts are sitting ok.

I do not think it's over yet. My site that has been affected lost even more rankings today. What about you guys?

Definitely an update within the last 4 hours... and search quality only continues to worsen in my niches.
I wonder what google's motivation is for this mess.

I monitor a ton of rankings, and from what I can tell there must of been some sort of bug/algorithm mistake as any of the sites that I noticed that fell off the map are back, and some even stronger than before.

Didn't Matt C. mention that there was indeed a bug with the latest update? Was this via Twitter? I've been traveling the past week and have had limited internet access so I'm curious as to where this was mentioned.

If this is a Google mistake, when are they going to fix it? Many websites are still in the gutter.

I just got a message to two of my sites in webmaster tools about Quality issues, it says they detected low-quality pages on my sites that do not provide substantially unique content or added value.

Strange though that the sites that are now in the top ranks that I ranked for a few days ago all have less content than mine and provide little to no value for the visitor.

That message means you had a manual review, doesn't it? If that's the case, I would imagine that they'll be combing the new results and demoting the sites that took your place.

Wordpress+Adsense websites were hit. My opinion :

Owners of such websites start cleaning your shi.t ASAP. They made a mistake this month and revealed that they are on to it. They intend to reduce their losses and kill the leeches.

"classifier for parked domains" sounds like a cheap excuse especially for a giant like Google. Learn from it!

Reason: If I were Google, I would set your asses on fire because you generate "poor quality content" and over encumber the search terms with "poor quality information".

I liked this one:
Jordan GreveApr 19, 2012What about this awful "over optimization" update you guys did that has people that have done 0 SEO ranking on the first page and having wikipedia and facebook pages rank at the top of G now for commercial terms?

He is right... Ranked #6 on "How to lose weight fast"
Which is the most SEO'd term in the diet industry (minus pharma terms)
http://www.facebook.com/HowToLoseWeightFastTips

I went to bing and yahoo and was struck by how unbelievably better and more targeted the results are for this keyword.

You have this ranking #2 on google:
http://www.kriskris.com/how-to-lose-weight-fast/

and this ranking #3 on yahoo:
http://www.fatlossfactor.com/

The former is just a thin email pull site...

The top 7 results in yahoo/bing are all basically what i would consider as sites the customer would want to see.

Just look at the MJseo differences:
https://www.majesticseo.com/reports...tp://www.fatlossfactor.com/&IndexDataSource=F
6k referring domains and 55k links this month alone

https://www.majesticseo.com/reports/site-explorer?folder=&q=www.kriskris.com/how-to-lose-weight-fast
800 referring domains and 2880 links this month

Google seriously just broke their engine, and are pretending it's for the better.

There are 0 results in the top 10 on google for "how to lose weight fast" that any customer would want to see... This isn't a small term either, it gets 400k exacts in google.
The problem is google's new algo is so gameable it's not even funny.
I will be one of the guys gaming the system, as i bought about 15 domains on some major major terms in my niches and intend to do just what these guys are doing to rank for 1-2 months and pull traffic in.

I'm still seeing sites shuffling around quite a bit. The Fix that Matt Cutts spoke of is either flawed, taking time to recalculate/propagate or their over optimization penalty is severely flawed. Some of the sites I have Adsense on took a nose-dive. At least Google will share in my loss. :D Which brings me to another point... Besides removing Webmaster Tools and Analytics, my strategy moving forward is to keep any Google product off of my new sites.

I keep dropping...10 or so spots constantly. Little by little, today was another drop.

This needs to fix itself, I'm losing 60% of traffic
