The Constant Attacking of Matt Cutts

Google is irrelevant. I don't blame anyone else for my life.

If I fail at SEO it's my fault, not Google's.

If I fail at life then it's MY fault. I've personally never met anyone who's successful and blames others, but they might exist!

You are expecting others to operate on the same level (business wise and morally) as you do. I'd agree that they should, HOWEVER, it's not going to happen, IMO.

We all know that people suddenly gain a false sense of bravado and superiority online. They can say anything they want (in their mind) and nobody can touch them. Same case here.

Throw into it that Cutts is really the "face" of Google for IM peeps and sure, dumbasses will lash out and say all kinds of stuff because their precious keywords are NOT ranking.

Sad but true. I agree that threatening violence is beyond STUPID and is just asking for trouble; not only for themselves but for the forum too. Other than that though, I think the best that can be done is for members themselves to speak up and come down on others who are relentlessly doing crap like that. I don't think Mods want to go running around slapping people down because they whine about Cutts (or others).

Just my $.02. Agree with you in principle. Just think your expectations are out of whack a bit.

Take it easy,
Con

Does anyone else find themselves offended by the ease with which some people get offended?

Again, I'm not offended in the *slightest*. If I were offended I would react very differently.

I actually find it slightly funny because I know why people are doing it. I believe dirtbag hit the nail on the head ;)

Regardless of that many of us here don't appreciate seeing that kind of stuff every time we read a thread about SEO.

We want a positive place for learning and exchange of knowledge, not a rant-forum where people are moaning and self-projecting their own negative issues and failures.

I think that this post is more about cleaning up BHW to maintain it's high standard.
If we let the less mature members take over members will start to look for other
forums to hang out... I say lets start now to set our standard, not later when it could be too late

Yep, you got it in one, absolutely 100%.

I appreciate your rationale comments on the matter, but remember that blackhatworld is a business owned by Diamond Damien and his policies are effected by the staff members, so people most certainly can't say anything they like.

When the owner/staff decide something then that's it, there's no argument. It only helps when the general members help to keep the standards high, but at the end of the day the rules are set by the owner because it's his business.

Like Bill Gates said "That is good", and he destroyed his competitors
Steve Jobs said "I'm going to destroy Google"
And Ballmer said "kill Google"

"matt cuntts" with lower cases isn't that bad

It's just business and synonyms he loves them

Of course companies are going to try to destroy their competitors and say they'll destroy them. That IS business.

What isn't business is personally attacking individuals on another company.

It's not about freedom of speech. It's about integrity. Just because we're blackhat marketers doesn't mean we have to act like a bunch of street thugs towards competitors. This isn't gang-warfare.

Mutual respect is a great thing. Take a look at all the big successful names in business and you won't find many of them who don't respect their competitors. They certainly don't bad-mouth, and certainly not publicly.

Also, it's not something that 'bothers' me exactly. I'm just doing my bit to help keep blackhatworld a place we can all call home. Someone has to stand up sometimes and say what needs to be said. I know I'm not alone with my thinking here, there are many who don't like this kind of stuff and what I want to see is more of the people on this forum with integrity stand up and say "This isn't acceptable". The sort of people that have integrity tend to be more passive and take a back seat though, so what ends up happening sometimes is the aggressive folks go on a rampage. ;)

All I'm doing here is being the first to step forward on an issue and say "This is not ok."

Someone said that this is bhw culture. Well, it's not. I was a passive reader for years here before I finally signed up and I can assure you that it's NOT bhw culture to flame.

*edit*

That 1 star someone's just voted the thread is hilariously immature btw. :-)

Sigh...

And I'm sure if we bashed cops, political figures, famous people, blah blah blah, etc... You would be right there saying how its not right and you disagree with things that are said by folks here.

The opinion of others and freewill is a great thing that can never be policed or restricted. You have your views and we have ours.

I respect competitors and Google is an empire that I would have loved to create but Matt cutts is just like most of us, a microbe in the galactic soup and he will be subject to the repercussions of his actions both good and bad. You can't become as successful as he is without making enemies.

Making an issue of what others say isn't going to get results, it just further causes division in the BHW ranks , but again freedom of speech entitles you to your opinions and I respect that but just don't agree, you know.

It's not a matter of immaturity, some people just operate on a whole other level of thought. But as you can see the concensus of members here really dislike the guy out of pure instinct or whatever it is.

Don't let it chap your ass too much turtle, its just the way it is. Integrity has little to do with it because if that was the case you should have figured it would have been a lost battle making a point of it anyway, especially around these here parts:D

Again, I'm not offended in the *slightest*. If I were offended I would react very differently.

You are, though. Were you not, you wouldn't have started the thread. Be your offense for yourself or for what you feel it is doing to the forum, you are - by definition - offended.

I actually find it slightly funny because I know why people are doing it. I believe dirtbag hit the nail on the head ;)
Well, see, I find that infantile. But, and more importantly, I find it presumptuous: I live on an island, drive a BMW 6 series, have a wife most men are unable to look in the eye and am liquid for a million at any given time, and I still say Matt Cutts is a knob.

Regardless of that many of us here don't appreciate seeing that kind of stuff every time we read a thread about SEO.
Hyperbole or no, you do not see it "every time [you] read a thread about SEO". It's just that it sticks-out to you because you find it offensive.

We want a positive place for learning and exchange of knowledge, not a rant-forum where people are moaning and self-projecting their own negative issues and failures.
lol, friend... some are surely doing exactly as you describe: failing and looking for a scapegoat. I suppose my problem is your generalisations - you're painting with far too broad a brush, and I say this not only because I believe Matt Cutts to be a clueless and intolerable wanker, but because everyone in IM and online investing that I know are successful and they all feel as I do. Further, hundreds of thousands of people, through no fault of their own, have had significant negative impacts on their lives as a direct result of Matt Cutts' decisions.

I truly do hope that you never suffer unduly from one of Matt Cutts' decisions; but if you do, I hope it gives you perspective.

P.s. I promise, more industry professionals are turned off to Internet forums such as BHW by monikers such as "Blue Turtle" than they are by Matt Cutts being referred to as 'Matt Cunts'. ;):)

I think BLIXX actually hit the nail on the head lmao.

If BHW was that bad of a place it wouldn't have hooked so many members because aside from the fun we have at others expense, there is actually vast amounts of knowledge shared to this day and some of the intellectual debates are riveting.

Sigh...

Well, yeah, I think bashing/flaming anyone is negative and not conducive with building a successful business, BUT, I'm making a point of highlighting this for the specific reason that Matt is in our industry, so this flaming is way way too close to home.

Flaming random things in the lounge like cops/politicians/the world is just the usual moans, but constant direct attacks on Matt Cutts who is a prominent figure in our industry isn't appropriate and doesn't do our image any favors in the eyes of the marketing community and wider business community as a whole, who will just view us as a bunch of kids.

Your entire reply here is just full of personal attacks and for that reason I just skimmed it and won't justify a counter-response.

I could if I wanted to take your argument apart piece by piece because it is full of logical fallacies and the good old straw-man argument, but that's futile and it'll serve no purpose other than to turn THIS into a flame war, which is the very thing I want to avoid.

If you want to converse further with me please refrain from getting personal as it's not how people debate issues, but really from here it's up to the staff to decide if they want to allow this to continue, and if they do I'll abide by their decision and will not comment further on the matter.

Thanks.

Wow, someone call the fire department please

matts is definitely here but which one of us is matt cutts on this thread ?

Personally, I think it is just a bit of fun. But some people do take it too far or become too personal.

Do you want him to allow all spam and lose his job? Do you want google to change their policy and allow spam? You realize they'd crumble within the year. If they did start allowing spam then you'd STILL moan, because you wouldn't suddenly just magically rank, you'd be competing with the millions of other spammers.

Uhh, it might not be in their policy, but G clearly allows and rewards spam.

In a weird way, Matt Cutts is kinda like our "boss". Any tongue-in-cheek shit talking about Cutts is just an extension of that... everyone bitches about their boss.

Thanks.

I'll recap.

1.) You said you were not offended by the constant jibber jaber about Matt Cutts - I provided the rationale as to why you are. This is not a personal attack, it is the reasonable questioning of your premises.

2.) I explained how I find the insinuation that everyone who takes jabs at Matt Cutts is an infantile loser, to be infantile and presumptuous. By providing counter-arguments, and a counter-rationale, I am attacking not you, but your understanding of the reciprocity and tolerance involved in the right to free speech. I not only feel yours lacks perspective, but have demonstrated as much.

3.) You said you see attacks on Matt Cutts in every thread you read about SEO. You do not.

4.) You implied further that people complain about Matt Cutts not because of anything that Cutts has done, but because "people are moaning and self-projecting their own negative issues and failures." I provided you with a salient, albeit general, example of how that's not always the case.

Look, if you can't take the heat, get out of the proverbial kitchen. The ultimate irony of your thread, OP, is that it is you - and only you - that has engaged in personal attacks. Seemingly, against anyone and everyone with whom you disagree, the people expressing their opinion of Cutts, in particular.

matt cunts...GET IT?! It rhymes with CUTTS. TRLOLOLOLOLOL

Yeah I have no problem with the Cutts bashing... but Matt Cunts? That's fucking weak.

Matt Cunts, Gaypal, Egay... none of you kids using that terminology are making money.
