Hey guys, I just wanted to post on here and encourage you guys and say you can do it and to keep pushing. I had a $11,000 month in March after doing this for only 4 months with $5000 of it being residual. Its taken a lot of hard work but it is totally worth it! I have been using a few methods to achieve this: Networking has been my most valuable asset. My advice is to get into the public... as simple as that sounds, going to events like Chamber of Commerce has just been amazing for me. Well Good luck guys

Most people at the Chamber are "Good Ole Boys" the Older generation that has been hearing aobut Online marketing for a while but never had someone with enough balls that they could trust to sell them on it. Most Cities have a Chamber.

As far as more details.
BNI.com (find your local chapter) , Chamber of Commerce, Eat your way to a $10k monthly income. Lunch dates are your best friend and strongest way for gaining new clients and referrals..

common thing I hear from people is I dont know how to sell the product. And what that translates to me is you dont understand what it is your selling or your not confident enough in your own abilities to perform for your clients. If you want to sell your client, dont sell to them inform them. You have to be the guru, and they have to buy from you, not be sold to by you.
Easiest way is invite them to lunch in the idea you want to meet them and hear how they are making it in "your cities economy" How they are finding new clients and any tips they would have for you. And you should be truly interested in what they have to say because a lot of these people will have the exact key to your cities economic structure. Then when you get the chance to tell them what you do... wow them with facts, and information on how the market is changing from print to online. Introduce Huge selling points as a pointer to them

" You cant track a return on Print marketing, commercials, radio etc etc. How ever you can track every movement with online marketing."

ever thought " I wish I could market to everyone who ever needs ex: wedding cakes!" Wouldn't that just be a dream! Well now you can do that! anyone that needs a wedding cake in "our" city will be searching it online and we put our website right in their face! You could never do that before online marketing came around. It has revolutionized the marketing industry!

Then show them where to sign.

Tips
Bring cards (give them 2-3 )
always have a contract in a folder with you
always have a statistics sheet with you. (20% of people clikc the ppc, 83% never leave the front page) etc etc
potentially do a little research on their industry and bring a keyword monthly search printout just as a free gift to them.

Obviously you have to have some serious white-hat SEO skills, these aren't clients whose sites you can blast with Scrapebox, not sure a lot of people here are capable of understanding that.

@ Brink.

Thanks for the post, +1 for the tips.

I have been to one of those meetings once - back in 2010 I think. They are from the old school, but they make REAL MONEY. I was the only person in their 20s when I went there. They were discussing which banks could pay you 10%+ interest, what opportunities Brazil had and other big business talk.

I felt a bit out of my league, but if your past the $10K mark after taxes per month and you want to go offline... those people are def. the types of people you want to meet up with. You can learn from the people that "run" the city and make the city millions.

It takes balls to sell em, coz some of them will have world wide businesses, turning over millions of pounds.

My chamber has a Web Designer present. I'm guessing they would know about the other services. I might still go one day though. Did you have any competition in your area?

I can vouch for the Chamber of Commerce. I went to meeting last year on the topic of 'Online video'. I made a speech on the important of video for your website. People thought I was a guru and ended up closing 3 deals.

Ha there you go! That's the importance of getting yourself out there. If you're willing to put on a speech with what you know, you're bound to amaze many people. With that, closed sales as you've experienced.

Get out there everybody!!

Yeah, I've heard that taking up speaking in public is a great way to get new clients. Going to definitely do this in the near future.

jrbobdobbs

Lol if thats all your doing then you shouldnt be in the S E O game anyways. That makes it hard for the people selling a real service.

IamNRE

These are my favorite kind of people to network with right now in the season of my business. They have the deep pocket ventures. I just landed a Company in the Oil Industry. While at a convention with that client I met 2 other potentials that I have a meeting with this week. "Networking is King"

Abstroose

Nice, I just got offered a paid hour Time position for a speech on E mail Marketing. I Think Ill take it.

Quickly I want to stress this again guys. Networking is King! You have heard this over and over and over again.

Referrals are your best source of business. But the Referrer doesn't have to be a current or passed client! They just have to be someone that now respects you as a AUTHORITY in online marketing.

We all know what Authority is in the s e o world ) and how we gain it for our clients websites.

Answer to this questions which I know is on your minds " How do I get authority in my referrers mind"

SIMPLE!!

Explain how you gain authority for websites!

I don't know about the BNI groups... did that and came to the conclusion that most of those people there are hurting for business and are spending their last bucks on the memberships fees. That is not my ideal client. I am making a killing nationally, but am interested in branding my business name locally and I would have to say you had me at " good ol' boys" I'm a younger guy but hold old school morals and principles, so I would love the chance to speak with and have potential clients that are good ol boys because I have been to dinner with the governor of my state and all that and have come to the conclusion that that is just not my crowd, I don't like those ass kissing type but good ol' boys are down to earth, tell it like it is, respectable gentlemen and that is right down my ally. Thanks + rep given!

Congrats friend.. try to work smart than hard..

Just curious what is the minimum price you charge clients for SEO? I see a lot of companies offer like $200 a month or whatever. I don't even feel like crawling out of bed for that.
