Hello, I am actually not an eBay newbie, as I have had a largely dormant account for 5 years, selling on and off, but I have yet to make significant profits. So in a sense I am in the same boat as many clueless newbies. And that's why I am making this post.
Some background: I have a business degree but unfortunately was never taught practical ways of making money. College is such a waste because you learn so much theory and the professors are there because if they were making real money they probably would not be teaching at a university. So in reading some of the success stories I am finding that some people either have a knack for making money or are directed in the right way somehow (internally it seems, usually).
Obviously if the successful shared all of their secrets their profits would shrink due to competition. So it is understandable that some posts giving advice are vague or seem largely self-congratulatory. With that said, I have some questions.
1. I have struggled in finding the right product to sell on eBay. It seems whenever I come up with an idea (and I know, electronics are to be avoided because too many newbies jump on that ship) it seems saturated and that prices have been slashed so that it is impossible to make serious money. What tips do you have for finding the right product to sell (sourced from Alibaba, Liquidation.com, or wherever)? Is there a software that you recommend?
2. Are there any resources that you recommend that are very specific in their advice? There is already too much vagueness, and some of it is understandable. I guess what I am asking for is a "for dummies" manual, website, ebook, whatever, that makes it simple and avoids mumbo-jumbo, empty self-promotion, or whatever else is useless.
3. Are there groups or organizations that can help a clueless person such as myself, who desperately wants to make money?
4. Is there really practical advice that can be offered, or must all posts be mysterious, leading the slightly less intuitive to nasty and frustrating dead-ends?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. And I am sure I'm not the only frustrated person around here!
