Why I find University pointless....

Sir although I do love the post about your success as a millionare ( or maybe billionare already, who knows :), I would still respectfully disagree with your point of studying.

Don't get me wrong, education is designed for 9 to 5 workers/officers as I totally agree with that. However I have to say that education comes in handy especially when you start to realize that your working patterns/learning process/mentality changes. That's right, an average high school student's mentality can never compete with an average university student's mentality.

That's the reason why study shows that people who have higher education tends to live longer and happier in general. If anyone who claims that University is pointless I would be the first one to argue, because as a computer Engineer student the experience I have gone through will never be replaced by anything, nor I would want to use other things to trade that.

It's a learning process, a spirit rather than a routined job. No wonder there are so many people who aren't typical so successful in life (not the people here btw), because they tends to treat University work as a rountined job, they never think but rather let others to push them forward.

If you want to argue that University suck, I am 100% on your side, even to this day, I can't help but comparing University with mental institution, you get your everyday drug, you brain/creativity gets shut down, and you go to bed. That's the whole idea behinds it.

Edit:

To quote others who say, knowlegde is good, u never know it can come handy = they are still in the rat race, and living someone elses life.

Here is the key:

If learning leads to knowlegde = You are a fool and useless shit.

If learning leads to action => magic happens.

Idea is to develop yourself so well, that YOU know what u need, and learn it instnatly. That you know what u don't know and learn it instantly.

The ability to know what u don't know. Why should u fill your head about, digital media or adobe director and all that shit?

If you don't repeat it, u don't master it, u don't master it u slowly start to forget = useless knowlegde.

Knowlegde is not power, if it's not defined in action.

So the only good thing our friend here learns from university is : HOW TO WASTE 7.5K !!!!

He will learn that COST and Value are different things. He payes 7.5k and gets value of less. (thats why he posts here).

I bought Think and grow rich for 2 dollars, hardcover, 'that book is worth for me over 200k".

So a knowlegde is only usefull if it's in a form of action and it comes from desire of that person.

We don't live long to 'think we are going tot he right direction" to think someday i will need this knowlegde, to hope someday it will came handy.

That mentality is a middleclass mentality : BHW mentality : I don't even have time TO go whitehat! And u want to waste your time into knowlegde that can come handy someday? lol

University is not useless if you want to become a 9-5 guy. If you want job security. What u learn there is to be a good 'follower", not a good student.

Myself i was studing the highest degree that u could get in economic and business (econimic engineering) (in europe)

I wasted 2 years of my life, then i found out the reason i was studing was '?'. I didn't know why i was studing, we all are programmed.

Then indeed, i found out that If you learn what u love, u can learn that in 1 month what they learn in 12 months.

Why should i waste my time to get a degree? a degree is to get me a job? and i wanted to build assets?

So i said, fuck it, quit university, after couple of days, lost my gf because of it, and ofcourse parrents got disapointed in me ect...the list goes on.

1 year, i didn't left my room. 18hours a day, i was in my room, i bought my self a 3k hardcore pc, lool (not for gaming) but i felt i will need it.

So 'i don't know how' but i found the book think and grow rich, and after that i started reading tons of books ,took notes, downloaded seminars,

EDIT: I remembered how i fiound, think and grow rich : I researched a list of 5k millionairs and billionair,s and started studing and reading their biography, and one of them was talking about that book. I left pc on, took my car (when i had it) (it was my last days with my car lol) and i went to bookstore to buy it, they didn't have it, so i went to secondhand store, there i saw it, when i took it in my hands, 'i felt something special".

I was so curious, that i have read the first 100 pages in the store. Then i payed 2 dollars (about 1.5 euro) and went home. Didn't do anything else but reading it.

And once i finished that book, i remember and said, Who can be so stupid to sell this book ? I was like wth?? How can u sell this ? I Still don't understand. Nowdays when i see it in the stores, i still think, WTF.

If there is someonehere who sold that book, shoot your self lol

I studied wealth. After i understood and felt the fire in me, i started reading 'technical books" like seo, (webdesign i could do it from 14) (i was selling vbulletin themes on talkfreelance back then lol) i was making 400 dollars a month. (i would take a existent vbulletin theme, totally redesign it, and sell it, (after changing totally the code).

When i look back, i never regreted.

In Scarface, tony montana said 'u all are suckers, pussies, 'u need balls to make your dreams come true" (back then i was in university).

And i tought, fuck i'm a fucking douchebag, (altough i was an aggresieve guy, i could beat anyone, i was eveolved in alot of street fights, and my father was also a figter...(and engineer= all he says is ur useless, get a degree lol).

so for the first time in my life i felt like a sissi girl, like all the muscles didnt represent anything, i was winning at fighting, but i was losing at living. Next day , i called univeristy i stoped my subscirption. lost the money, i said to my self, 'the money i lost represents nothing to what i'm going to do. I'm going to do magic, and thats what happend, after 8 months, i got that money back.

So the thing is, u really have to know what u want? some people dream to be a laywer, then yes u need a degree..

but in webdesign, 'coman, how stupid to be a designer, and go to work for someone?

Degree is only NEEDED if you want to a JOB. If u want wealth, the sooner u leave university the sooner u will get what u want.

Also, People who claim that university gave them an ordered mind, and dicipline = they all lie to them self.

Real dicipline and order, comes from inside. Nothing form outside can give u more then u can get from inside.

University made u a slafe of not thinking and dreaming , university made u 'focus on something u don't even dream about.

To me everyone diserves to make their dreams come true, u have to charish dreams.

If you don' t live your dreams, u live someone elses life.

So to the op:D , If you are in the IM and u dont want a job , THEN the sooner u quit the sooner u will become a happy person.

First year i passed my exams well, in the 16/20) Second year i only particpated 2-3 exams.

None of them i passed not because it was hard, but because u cant study it as your mind desires something else.

It's like u love someone and u marry to someone else, and people keep telling u , yeah keep fucking her, it's temperory. lool

The only place that people would understand me is here, in my real life, people think i'm a drug dealer. lol

It used to be that a college degree was a sign of capability and social status. Now it may be an indicator of obsolescence.

Physical universities will become a thing of the past. When the majority realize they can get a better education, faster and cheaper on-line, they will go in that direction, and the "physical" University system will go bankrupt.

I'd also think that younger people are learning the lessons from the mistakes of their idiot parents with regard to debt. At least I hope that's true. It makes no sense to go into debt in order to acquire a degree that does not convert directly into a good cash flow. Academics, professional students and people that love "learning for learning's sake" can do far more online than they ever could in Universities, and they can do it for free. Meaning, it is a respectable endeavor to spend time on "useless" learning, but it's REALLY stupid to spend the rest of your life in debt in order to do it.

And your idea is basically accepted by 90% of the US citizens 20 years ago, which means that it's nothing new nor deep. I could even suggest that this idea itself is an indicator of status, a status of rebelling I should say. Think about it, university is just university, it's a resource, just like the Internet. Just because 99% of people don't use that resources, doesn't mean that it isn't there. I have personally known feel people who are in my university's design team, who becomes significantly more motivational and result-oriented after 2 years of engineering learning. could you achieve that with IM? absolutely !! however I would never expeirenced such an intensed schedule if I haven't come to university ( my engineering program contains 40 hours of coding and 40 hours studying/reviewing per week, plus assignments of course). You could say that I don't have a life, but isn't that what life is? setting up a goal and achieve at the fastest rate you can go.

PS: I am sure you know that doctors/laywers/engineers can still be converted to cashflow easily after graduation. Can I simply assume that the professional students you referred about just simply haven't tried to learn anything (instead they just party or whatever you want to call it), just like 99% of the IMer who bought rehashed material day after day hoping to make some decent cash. LIFE isn't fair you know, some people just aren't ready for the big thing to happen in their life.

I kinda feel disappoint for the fact that many people actually want to retire at 30 years old for the new generation (excluding me lol). Well here's my little logic, if you love what you are doing so much that you just enjoy every single seconds of it, why would you want to retire from that?

Retirement means you don't need to work, not that you are banned from work you may enjoy doing.

If you hate your job more than anything in the universe, what's your motivation of succeeding banking from that?

In that case, the first sentence is the motivator, obviously.

imagine that in your route of success you will meet lots of blockage, how can you possibly succeed if you hate your job so bad that you just want to drop it when you at your peak level.

The alternative would be to stick to something you don't like. What's better?

Besides, we just heard too much about achieving financial freedom and such things, which makes me wonder, what kind of life do you want? I mean I get it you like beach vacations and women, but I would say that would be really boring if I have everything I ever wanted and waiting for my death to come!!

What you are not getting is that people are striving for financial freedom so that they have options. What they do with these options is up to every individual to figure out for himself. Not a big burden, I assure you. :D

Just another thought I had another day:

Universities are like information marketers. They take the best "testimonials" and display those every where to attract students. But when someone drops out, they keep the noise low.

But there are differences. Info marketers got all the bad reps when students fail, but universities are almost immune. Even with strict selection process, still not all of them graduate as a successful person 10, 20 or 30 years after.

On the other hand, people expect to gain success immediately after reading an ebook.

Sure, some marketers don't have enough expertise to create a product, but those who do, don't get enough credit. Don't you think?

I disagree. Yeah, alot of us are self taught. But informal education really is disorganized. and Many find that when they do get a degree, youre more ordered. Just as moeatwa said. and if you majored in webdesign, they dont focus alot of PHP thats why you have not learned it in depth. You should major in computer programming or comp science and then youll go into the c+, java, and php more in depth.

This is happening to me right now. I can no longer find interest in my studies. I realized that what I really wanted was to acquire wealth and what I'm doing right now doesn't contribute to my dreams.:(

Hi friend,

I totally agree and left uni after the second year with a view to setting up a business. BHW clearly has more useful general life information than any overpriced uni course!

Cheers :)

I hear people telling that BHW helps really on programming knowledge. I should say No.The programming / Webdesign section is kinda slow in BHW. Lately seeing some threads poping up and people answering their doubts rightaway.

Downloading a Pdf off a forum doesnt help much when compared to being like Stackoverflow where we can ask questions and get them answered/helped by other members out there.

More discussions on programming = More analytical reason = easy programming.

How about making the programming section active and open than it is now, Jazzc?

I learn some bits and pieces everytime I read through a "Problems in my code " threads.

Thanks for bumping my old thread up. I really have lost 95% interest in uni this year. I assume I will be dropping out this year, but I have gained so much from BHW I plan to apply for SEO jobs, or along those lines, see how they do it for real, and then apply it myself. This is along side my current offline stuff.

As some guy above said, I work to learn, rather than work to earn. I love SEO, it's such a challenge and (ironically) it feels 'free'.

knowledge is one thing.
Having a degree is another.

Think u want to create & manage websites when u'r 50 y'old ?
Wht if shit doesn't go the way you imagined it would... no degree = no cash = no food

I agree with you, but I do have a foundation degree with distinctions (most grades above 90%).

And at 50, do I plan to be designign websites or doing SEO? GOD NO! My old age dream is owning my own stamp shop! That's where REAL money is :)

Here's why:
