1and1 Debt Collection

I cancelled and transferred two domains, after renewal date.

although I did not have paypal or credit card info on 1and1, they charged me each for $9.99.

If I do not pay $19.98 in 7 days, my contact information on 1and1 will be sent to debt collection (NCO financial).

I asked if my previous payment information will be also sent to debt collection, they said NO.

My contact info is FAKE as well as the WHOIS. The contact info is a different name with fake address and all.

Should I pay the $19.98? or just fuck it since its not my name?

Has anyone experience similar situation?

I've been in the same boat for a couple years. Plus, they say I never turned off auto-renewal. So although my account access is blocked, every year they charge me another $60. Fake info, but still. Debt collectors call number twice a day. GV number haha.

If it is not that much then just pay it and make sure they close account or don't bill you again.

I'm not saying they can or can not find you with fake info, but your better off paying it if it's only $20 and save yourself the worrying. Up to you though.

I like their prices and services. Who are some companies that are economical like them and reputable. I use Hostgator but I need quality cheap extra .com and info domains.

They are good to drive you in with X months free but then they will never let you go.

When i call them, i say i want to cancel here are their answer :

Actually they are a real collection agency and what they generally do is buy the debt for pennies on the dollar and try to collect.

That is a pretty common business model for that industry.

The way I see it is... If you see that they have commercials all over mean stream TV they are most likely paying an arm and a leg for completely uneducated customers to do that exact thing to. But yes they are a real company and they've been around for like 12 years. Been getting away with that for to long. Just makes me mad! I don't do anything about it though so I vent here

Eff 1&1. They have done crap like this to so many people. 1&1 are the *worst* online services company to do business with. As BTB said, NCO is a real company, but that doesn't mean you should cave or fear them. Collection agencies are a whole other breed of business, and fairly dark by their nature, but at least with collection companies you know where they are coming from.

Not so with 1&1 - they seem very friendly, competitive, and web-savvy up front. But once you're in their grubby paws, it is a whole different story. Name one other registrar that takes hours if not days to do an availability check on a name you might want to register. They suck.

I believe the only reason 1&1 haven't had their ICANN accreditation as a registrar yanked is because ICANN has no testicles. At least with ICANN you are dealing with a toothless, monolithic organisation that collects their measly little pennies per every name registered anywhere (good work if you can get it, and their name dispute process is a joke, but I don't think ICANN is actually malicious). Whereas with 1&1 you are dealing with con artists, digital rapists, and scumbags.

Dispute the collection attempt in writing - with NCO and with any credit bureaus in your region. Keep all communications via snail mail. That will likely make them back the eff off. Then pull your credit report in a few months and if this crap from them is on it, dispute that too to get it cleared.

@silentthunder - who are some economical and reputable companies you could use instead of 1&1? Anybody but 1&1. The specific companies I would suggest depend on what you need (hosting, names, other), but anybody other than the douchebags at 1&1 would be better.
