Looking to get a new Laptop..suggestions/recommendations?

current laptop is a notebook and its all I have and have had for quite a while (basically lost everything I owned another story )

anyways--startin to make some money now so I def wanna upgrade..because I can't really even do some things.

I'd like to spend under $2k but willing to spend more and I kno thats a lot but I don't really wanna just get some 'deal' I want to get something that I like--and has all the features that I want.

Pretty sure I want a solid state--and a bigger normal secondary drive also would like as big of a screen as possible. portability isnt really an issue because I could just use my notebook.

Thinking about getting an 'msi'

I've seen a few configured w/what I want..and they are around ~$1800..

Anyone have one?

Any other recommendations?

I like matte laptops a lot better. Also I wouldn't suggest HP, most of the HP laptops I've owned have had overheating problems.

I was thinking of getting one of those laptops that weighed under 3 lbs. eg: Zenbook, or Samsung 9 series.

I would strongly recommend the ASUS Republic of Gamers G74SX-AH71. A very solid laptop for the price (around $1400) I have the cheaper 1000 model at I can run damned near everything with it, that and its pretty cool looking.

I own 3 Dell's never had any problems...One lap top is 10years old and used every day. Just saying.

If you have a wireless laptop / notebook you will find it more convenient compared to a desktop which restricts your location.

Dell XPS 15 is what I have, it's a fully loaded notebook. The 1080P screen mine has is the best on the market, and it has the best laptop speakers on the planet and WAVES audio processing built in. Check it out.

your screen size is only 15 (compared to 17.3), doesnt burn blueray, has a 6 cell battery (compared to 9), only 8 gigs of ram (compared to 12), has a worse graphics card (the 570m performs 20% better), there is no raid controller, no backlit keyboard, and no down firing subwoofer the msi has a built in overclocking controller and superior cooling system. also, its not clear if the dell has usb 3.0 or not.

The MSI is good for the price, but they seem compact (no dedicated #pad on the side even) and they don't stay nearly as cool as the Asus, the Asus have a great design.

You can also get it with the 570m instead of the 560m, it's just a bit more expensive and it will easily bump to 16gb RAM. I bought mine and upgraded the RAM myself for ~$200, the only thing now is the SSD.

Highly recommend the G74sx, very highly!

The only bad thing I read about the MSI was that there was a problem where sometimes pushing a key wouldnt register but they fixed that and its no longer a problem.

There is, I just never noticed it. That's kinda what i mean by compact, it is all "squished" together like a regular laptop where as the G74sx is really spread out. Guess it all boils down to personal preference but I know about the key pressing problem and it just seemed like it was a cheaper build, like they cut a few corners in order to keep price down. The Asus just feels like a better put together machine to me when they are side-by-side.

yeah right. the specs on the macbook pro are garbage and cost like 3 grand. then you wind up with something half as powerful for twice the money. Yes the MSI has a better graphics card since um, it's a GAMING laptop. The XPS 15 is arguably the best multimedia notebook on the market, it also works great for many games but if you want bleeding edge then go with Sager etc. Honestly that MSI looks cheap, like all MSI's. The build quality is questionable and that keyboard looks like it'll be a source of further problems in time.
