Guide to Google penalties recognition and removal 2012

I had a top 3 ranking for my main keyword for about a year but I got a -50 penalty a couple of months ago. My main keyword is still on page 5. My website is still indexed by Google. I have used Blackhole on this website for a couple of weeks but it's not moving.

What do I need to do to fix this?

After reading this post, I found how to remove broken links from google webmaster and that probably helped my onsite seo in google's eyes. the information here is gold and it should inspire everyone.

good post, one of my sites just fell off the cliff overnight 2 pages both showing on 1st page to nowhere.... now i have at least a starting point to find out where it all went wrong

my site fell off 2nd page to nowhere after i got a fiver gig for tumbler backlinks. it's been gone for allmost a week now. if i search the domain. com in google i hold position 1-4. what does it mean? after i read your post i send it to pingler but nothing changed. is it a dance? what should i do? should i remove the tumbler backlinks?

NEVER remove backlinks - not past Panda. If something was done - leave it. Only thing that Google hates more than spam is bad optimization and removing links.
How many links you got?
What is the quality of pages that those links are posted on?

Can you explain this in more detail? Why it is bad to have google "connections" when optimizing onpage seo/doing reputation management?

Google is scraping data. Google+, Webmaster Tools, Gmail and Analytics are Googles tools to scrape data. Simple removing Google Webmaster Tools/Analytics from site will (somehow) clear your name. You can run full backlinking campaign (quality links) afterwards to regain your positions in no time.

What do you mean by these? Do you mean website evaluation sites? Similar to aboutus.org? There are some tools which run your url through thousands of sites...



Can you recommend effective link building methods for a penalized site? I can take as much manual work as I can.

I am thinking doing: Press Releases, Web 2.0 (Tier 1, manually, most of those are not in Senuke database), guest posts, video / pdf submissions, article submissions... more ideas? Of course I would like not to pay much, I just can't afford.

I rarely agree with someone wholeheartedly, but I think newbies should follow your advice. I have been thinking some things through recently and my conclusions agree with what you've said.

It's all too easy to "game" the system but it's just as easy for Google to catch on - if they want to. And they seem to want to, now. So stealth and "natural footprint" are becoming more important - and your guidelines are excellent strategies for doing just that. Thanks again for sharing, I know you must be overwhelmed with PM's, but I'm just as sure that you have prevented a lot of folks from making serious mistakes or your advice is helping them to get back on track.

I think I have a site with a combination of A + C in your OP. Have been building links aggressively since it happened a month ago. Keeping anchor and link variety/ velocity in mind.

I have a combination of -50 and -100 penalties. Site is still indexed perfectly and domain name appears in No.1 when searched. In the last 30+ days, there has been no signs of recovery. Have spent a lot of money on link building and will continue to do so.

Taking your advice, I will be hiring a developer to work on my site codes etc. I am also thinking of doing the AMR blast, with raw URL that you recommended. How do I do this? Get a few Ezine articles and submit them using AMR, with my raw URL in the author bio? How many articles should I submit? How many directories to submit to? If I do not spin the articles, do you mean to submit 1 article to hundreds/ thousands of directories? Do I add them to Lindexed afterwards?

That's well put together. I'd like to add that not every time your rankings drop it means you are penalized. It might just mean your competitors are working harder than you as you don't have to stop working on your rankings when you reach #1 but even work harder to keep yourself there.

i can put the links back up again. should i?

Try to create as many raw links to get 20-30% total backlinks to be them - this should reverse penalty in some extent.

No, dont put them back - usually removing bad links is dangerous and if you never did it - I would recommend not going there.
If you already did it - so be it.
Google hates when you remove backlinks - especially if they are indexed/crawled and in large quantities.

I ran through brokenlinkcheck and found 18 broken links. However when I downloaded broken link checker wp plugin, they detected no errors. Which one is accurate and how do I remove the links when I dont see it in my website at all? Are they in the code or what? Im sorry but I have no knowledge in html or php or whatever. Thanks
