I would refer my situation to (But not at least)...



I will start with a single example, because all my sites got hit. I was using almost the same backlink building strategy and all of them were added in the same Analytics / Webmaster accounts, so I just don't know why all of them are hit...

One of my sites was ranking on a lot keywords in auto insurance niche, 250+ pages of the highest quality content, each page was at least 700 words, time on site was more than 4 minutes, page/visit more than 3. People loved it...

As of backlink building, I was using article directories (Many of them) and blog networks heavily besides quality comments, web 2.0 link building, backlinking backlinks with xrumer, social bookmarks, authority websites, guest posts, high quality web directories...

On about 5th of Feb I lost #1-5 position rankings for ALL main keywords (including LSI). No longtails were hit AT ALL... 3-4 days after I totally lost all rankings including longtails. Instead of pages which were ranked on the keywords, I was seeing my other pages (which included the term) on #50-100 positions. The pages which were ranking on those keywords just disappeared from SERPs. Now I only rank on my exact domain keyword...

As of now, here is what I'm thinking about the reasons:

1. No brand linking (I should not have over used anchor texts, even click here is natural)
2. Over using spun content (as more as you use it, it gets less unique and easily trackable)
3. Over using blog networks... I checked about 50 of my 2-3 month old backlinks, all the homepage PR is 0, they lost it... some of them are deindexed.
4. In general, over using low quality link sources.

I feel i have a penalty because of all above. The links still stay the strongest indicator.

Do you think that getting medium / high quality backlinks will really help? Or I just should 301 websites to the new domains and move content?

Does pinging the site really help speed up the dance process? Would linklicious/lindexed do the job or do you recommend pingomatic?

Pinging +Whois = Yes
Any pinging is good past-Panda

What are the "whois" site(s) you refer to? Do you mean Directory Submits?

My question may sound silly but doesn't BHW have much more than 3 ad slots but it's still very highly ranked on google, many other examples can be given too. So isn't this supposed to mean that the number of ad slots doesn't affect Pagerank?

Its a forum script - there is huge difference between regular site and forum/video host/review site.
Its easier to rank site with 1-2 ad spots rather than 5-6.

Maybe someone can explain this.. I have a site where the domain keyword is nowhere to be found in google. Yet 2 inner page keywords are on page 2 and climbing.

Did you created any backlinks to inner pages?

Reason most of the times is that:

-you have more authority in inner pages than Main page (Main page received less backlinks)
-your onsite interlinking is in very poor condition



ALL - I am getting 5-10 PMs a day to help with penalties.

Use thread and let everyone get some idea whats going on.

my site fell off 2nd page to nowhere after i got a fiver gig for tumbler backlinks. it's been gone for allmost a week now. if i search the domain. com in google i hold position 1-4. what does it mean? after i read your post i send it to pingler but nothing changed. is it a dance? what should i do? should i remove the tumbler backlinks?

Follow those steps:
- remove Google Analitycs from your site
- close your Google Webmaster Tools account (cancel it)
- log out from Gmail/Youtube (from now on always log out from them before accessing Google search results or your site)
- opt out/log out from any Google owned business that could lead to YOU or to your website

Can you explain this in more detail? Why it is bad to have google "connections" when optimizing onpage seo/doing reputation management?

Moving my conversation from PM to the thread...

I received suggestion from EW regarding my penalized sites, here is it:

I will suggest this - remove webmaster/analytics from your sites.

Ping them to Whois directories.

Start building diverse backlinks to them (different strategy for each) over next 2 weeks.

Get as many backlinks indexed as possible.

Again - submit your sites to whois sites.

This should help.

What do you mean by these? Do you mean website evaluation sites? Similar to aboutus.org? There are some tools which run your url through thousands of sites...

Can you recommend effective link building methods for a penalized site? I can take as much manual work as I can.

I am thinking doing: Press Releases, Web 2.0 (Tier 1, manually, most of those are not in Senuke database), guest posts, video / pdf submissions, article submissions... more ideas? Of course I would like not to pay much, I just can't afford.

Yes, these questions sound noobish, but today I just don't know what to do.
