USPS - Every Door Direct Mail

Reason why you dont want a bit.ly link is that most people wont understand it, trust it. People are used to WWW.domain.COM/NET/ORG. bit.ly is used on twitter or on IM forums, but u would be losing a lot of sales if you use it in real life. Also have ur designes checked out, cuz if ur shelling out 1000$+, the worst thing u want is a miniscule design flaw that will change amazing profit to something else. Just cuz u think its cool, doesnt mean it will sell. Go to someone with experience.

Also, if u wanna hit up just 2 appartment complexes, might as well hire a kid to just pass the flyers out?! [depending on the rules etc. there]

Hey honzarox -

I'm worried about the trust issue too. I'm thinking of adding a picture of a Internet Explorer address bar with the "bit.ly" address typed out to guide and reassure them. Possibly use the words "Secure! and Safe!" too. Also, the link will have the apartment complex name in it - which should help with the trust issue as well.

Yea - designing this should be interesting. I'm toying around with some ideas in Photoshop and researching other offline advertising mediums - like billboards, newspaper ads and what not. Tons of inspiration!

I'm afraid that if I have some kid hand out the flyers - they will get tossed in the garbage. I want them directly in their mailbox.

this seems complicated and super expensive upfront

anyone make any actual money from this yet??

idk about anyone else but yes. Also, yes it did take a upfront investment. Also it was not easy to get it all together and ready to go.

Business Rule #1
If the markets easy to enter then it gets saturated really fast.

Business Rule #2
If people are already running a similar business successfully then odds are you can make money in that market too.

Business Rule #3
Magnitude - can it be scaled up after you've started to make a really big and profitable business. IE: How many people can you affect positively.

This business model is not for the faint of heart as you will have to stick with it. It's also not all that hard. Get a website, get mock-ups, get a graphic designer and start selling.

Go for it. Just expensive, thats all. And you are competing with tons of other junk mailers, but so are we here on the net. Good luck!

has anyone in this specific thread made money with this and if so how much?

Like I said before, yes I make money with this. How much I make does not matter and it changes month to month anyway. How much can you make is what matters.

The best way to get started is by offering to send out menus for local restaurants on a small scale. Offer to send out to a few routes a month. You can make $100 a month per biz you get to do this.

It's not much, but it's a start. To make a lot you gotta do a lot.

Hi Global P. How did the post office handle the route selection? Like did you suggest an area, or did they give you a map of routes?

If you go to http://www.uspseverydoor.com/index.php/retail and sign up by following the directions there it will take you to the control panel. You can then select your desired routes. You can also take a print out of the maps with a few routes selected and show the business owners. Just mess with the tool for a while and you will get it. Pretty simple user interface.

You can also get demographics from your routes. Avg house cost, Avg occupants per house.

Looks like a bit of hardwork, but it could work, especially seeing as you actually have a plan in mind. Still, is EDDM the only offline advertising option you are considering, or are you looking at others as well such as print ads, telemarketing, etc.? After all, there's no guarantee that a single strategy will work perfectly and you might need something else to fall back on.
