I started in the whole online thing back in 2008. Inspired by a thread over on warrior forum, I began building websites with the goal of making some good money on the side off of adsense. Eventually I branched off into amazon affiliate sales as well, and by the end of the year, I was averaging about $2000/month between the two. Things kept going up at that rate, until I reached a high of nearly $4000/month a year or so later (give or take).

Things were fairly easy back then, or at least seemed to be. I had no specific secret method beyond quickly choosing a keyword (about 1-5k exact matches) using MicroNicheFinder, registering a domain, adding 20-30 articles to begin with, and then building backlinks manually using Angela's Packets. The bulk of my revenue at the time came from about 10-15 sites. My approach was always to build "mini-authority" sites. It worked well, extremely well actually.

Unfortunately, around 2009/2010 due to a variety of circumstances, I put the online business aside to focus on other things. I had a couple of real-life businesses that consumed a lot of my time, and my career had me working long hours (I'm a software engineer). In short, I left the sites to die, although I still enjoyed the not-insignificant revenue they continued to collect. Over time, the revenue has dwindled, and now sits around $1000/month.

I'm back and I have plenty of time to focus on the sites again. Obviously, the first thing I did a few months back was to consult my extensive list of "Angela-style" backlinks and start building again. This failed. Old habits die hard.

My hope is that I can re-learn SEO, as it seems the game has changed a lot since I played.

I have nothing to sell, as my goal was always completely passive income. My focus is still Adsense and Amazon for the time being. I will be documenting everything I do, and everything I try (with the obvious exception of my keywords and websites).

My hope is that by posting here, others will contribute advice, services and strategies to try, etc... that will lead to accelerating my education on the topic. I invite you all to follow, discuss, and share in my progress.

I'll be watching as you continue this thread - you just have to stick with it and I'm sure you'll be back earning as much as you did before.

SEO Attempt #1: BMR

A few weeks back, I was lucky enough to have bought a BMR account just before they closed their doors. I'll be trying them out on a few of my old websites that have fallen from their spots in the past 2 years. I'll try to get about 30-50 posts queue'd up for each site, and posted out at a rate of about 1-3 per day. So far I have about 15 done per site. I should note that I will also update the sites with a new article every couple of weeks.

SEO Attempt #2: Fiverr Gigs

I've never done any outsourcing before, so this should be interesting. I'm taking 3 of my old sites that used to make some money, and will try out 1 Fiverr gig each week. These are not the same websites as in other posts. Every test will be isolated unless otherwise indicated.

This site never ranked well on Google.

Nothing special about the gigs I chose. Some link pyramids and social bookmarking.

SEO Attempt #3: Scrapebox

This will be my "manual" linkbuilding attempt. I'll be using scrapebox to blast links at a few sites, just to see what happens. Accepted wisdom on these forums is to never blast your money sites, although some threads seem to contradict this.

I'll be doing 2 tests here. One, I'll be blasting directly at the money site. I'll try to start slowly, and maintain link velocity over the next few weeks. The 2nd site I will be building a 20x open link wheel using web 2.0's, then blasting those mercilessly.

* Scrapebox list purchased from bk071 in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum.
* I have too few posts to post URL's, so search for bfellow's post "Massive Direct Scrapebox Blast on Brand New Website" for details on his direct blast tests.

What about keyword searches, competition?

As mentioned in the original post, I target keywords that have between 1-5k exact matches locally. Competition doesn't look that rough still, although I'm not familiar with many methods to evaluate competition.

In the past, I'd simply eyeball the top 3 and make a guess as to whether or not I could rank, so I'd be open to suggestions :)

Awesome post(s) and il be watching this to see how it goes. Have you thought of using any of the services for sale on here? I have had a lot more success with them than fiverr or sb.

Yeah, this seems to become a good journal!
I think buying some SEO services that are sold here at BHW will be an awesome contribution to your ranking rehabilitation ;)

Thanks guys, I'll be looking at the Buy/Sell/Trade forum a bit more over the next few months. I'll have to browse around a bit more to see what's available, and what I might like to try. For the time being, I'll just try to keep these experiments updated.

First you started with 5 websites and then pushing in SEO Process.

Is i am correct ?

The results from all 3 tests will be very interesting for me, since these websites already hit top positions in the past. I hope you will update each test with details. I believe you will get your earnings back pretty fast.

Are you updating your websites with fresh content and promoting through any web 2.0 properties? Keep it up!

I'm sorry, but could you rephrase that? I'm not sure I understand your question.

I'm running multiple SEO experiments, some of which will use web 2.0's. I am updating the websites with a bit of new content, maybe an article every few weeks.

First round of fiverr gigs were all fairly plain. I just randomly chose between either a linkwheel or social bookmarking. I'll branch out to some more "exotic" gigs in the coming weeks. I had a video testimonial made for one of the sites, and I'll have that sent out/blasted soon. Suggestions on gigs to take are welcome.
