Promoting E-commerce Website

This is abit spammy I know, but I did donate $97 to BHW, I hope mods understand....

This IS my 15 post :) PM sent...

yeah being a donor you might have some good facilities, however, still you r not free of risk so I recommend you go have a pre discuss with the mods before starting any new strategy.

I have an e-commerce store too but don't massively blast SB or SENuke to it but have gradually climbed up the SERPs for competitive keywords through a mixture of services from here and fiverr.

This service from tom4business moved me up quickly and I've bough BigBuddy's edu backlinks to point directly to my store with no issue.

I think as long as you aren't building 1000s of links a day, direct linking isn't an issue.

I also put all the links into linklicious.

iBacklinksPro is also a good way of seeing how many and what type of links your competitors have and the KWs they are using.

^^ Some good comments above I'm saving this post for reference. :D

Some questions on blasting the web2.0 and blog sites. So those sites link to the money making website just by the home page or should those sites also contain links to the categories, products?

There is no difference in terms of off page seo for an e commerce store any any other page you are trying to rank.

The links you build are the same and all else is the same. The only worry people might have is that most e com stores are long term. I understand if you are afraid to blast your site, but trust me, you wont get anywhere unless you start building tons of links.

Also, Creat unique content always. An easy way to swoop up long tail keywords are by having unique product descriptions, unique category descriptions and unique product names. YOu see, most online retailers are retarded and just copy the same names and product descriptions as the manufacturers.

Google sees your unique product names and descriptions and will rank your products over any competitor.

Also, don't neglect long tails. Swoop up all those super long tails that most of your competitors do not even know exist.

And don't be afraid to compete. Just because there are big boys in the field, doesn't mean you can't fall right in between the cracks. Usually, the big boys go after the main terms and neglect everything else. Keep your store specific to a certain product. Specialize in that product and build your seo infrastructure around that product.

GO niche and GO specific. Thats what I do :)

Since you own several websites selling physical items , I assume you work on many products so why not start a private blog network ?!!
for example you are selling x , y and z products why not do the following ;
1- setup a wordpress blogs for targeting keywords like " x coupons " & " where to buy x online " & " buy x USA " etc ....
2- redirect traffic of these wordpress blog to your main website .
3- ask bloggers to blog about your stores .
4- submit press releases .
5- go to fiverr and order videos testimonials and upload to all videos websites on the internet .
there are many tips you can do ;)

Or you can go the whitehat way and get no traffic. No one is going to blog about my online store unless I sell some of the most unique products out there.

Any why hit up bloggers when i can create my own links which will rank my site. Maybe over at the warrior forum they contact bloggers for link exchanges, but unless you have the coolest new thing on the market, no joe smo blogger is gonna give a shit about your e commerce store selling diapers.

OP, you can waste your time contacting bloggers or you can really start building links to your pages. As for the redirecting traffic, that is not a bad idea if you have one store. But once you start scaling up your stores, those hundreds of wp blogs are a bitch to maintain.

OP and others, thanks for sharing your experience on e-commerce websites. For those who owns an e-commerce store that are on the top 5 positions on page 1, are these stores converting at all and selling the items at all?

No they don't sell at all. I mainly do this for a hobby. Its fun ranking sites but who cares if anyone buys anything

Well its good to know that your ranking your e-commerce website as a hobby Dan Da Man. Good for your. Does anyone else with e-commerce store on the top 5 position converting a lot? It doesn't have to be any specific product. I just want to know in general if they do. Thanks again.

Important Question: Best way to do the Blog?

(1) www,domain.com/blog/blog-post-name
vs
(2) blog.domain.com/blog-post-name

I've heard opposing views on this from established IMers who I know for a fact are making bank.

For (1) Same domain, huge amount of content on the money site domain and deep interlinking can be done

For (2) Different domain, each blog post gives you multiple backlinks to main domain, and because of separation you can feel more comfortable blasting/bh'ing the blog domain with links

Both work obviously, I know as I own and/or manage both flavours. But what is better, or perhaps the difference the moot. I can't say from my own experience which is better because the sites differ in types of products sold and domain age, natural backlink profile, etc. I do know from checking Analytics that my eCommerce site using method (1) has gotten sales from blog post content and people finding it through a long tail search then browsing through to the shopping area. I also know method (2) has got me sales because I have ranked some of the blog post for longer tail / low competition keywords which have then led to sales in a similar manner.

The question is which is superior...

I have an ecommerce site ranking on the first page for several keywords in a competitive niche. I'm using prestashop. The trick is to extending product descriptions and making them unique. My shop has thousands of products, so it's overwhelming and time consuming. I've probably only completed about 2% lol. It's also boring :). I mostly backlink the homepage and categories. I backlink product pages maybe 10%. Products sometimes get discontinued so I don't want to lose all my backlinking efforts.

I just downloaded a plugin that displays the price and star rating on the SERPs like Amazon. Should help with conversions. I also use other plugins. No paid plugins. All free.

HI,jiggsaw

I am using prestashop too.

Can you please suggest some free and great plugin names that you are using? Thanks.

Max - why wouldn't the items sell? Almost everyone with an affiliate site sends traffic to an e-comm store to make sales...so if you have an ecomm store already ranking, that takes away the need to send them off to another site. I'd say conversions would be awesome if your site is any good.

I'm getting an ecomm site developed in a few weeks, and I plan to promote it the exact same way I would do for an affiliate site-- lots of high PR links.

It shouldn't be any different for link building. E-commerce or blog, just build a diversity of links to the homepage and inner pages.

It is a different story for on page but as others have stated, just create unique product descriptions with call to action.

I've recently been looking at starting an e-commerce store to sell certain physical items.

I had an idea using CL to market them, not too sure if it would work but it may help you get a few more customers.

Get PVA's or pay someone to post for you in appropriate category according to your product. eg. if your selling t-shirts then post an ad in the clothing category.

Post the brand and price of your t-shirt and do different items in different cities.

Have all emails forwarded to one email account with an auto responder set up.

Basically just say thanks for looking at my posting, we have a wide range of *your products* available at great prices. if you're interested visit: *website* we have an excellent promotion going at the moment. Regards *name of website*

I got no idea if it will be effective, as haven't done this yet. I plan to try it in the future once I have a store set up.

Anyway hope it may help you.

Best of luck

I get some but not as much to write home about. We also tend to pick up people going crazy and clicking page 2.

Started it on my own build where it was ranking 4. Needed/wanted more so switched to WP.
Hopefully redirect sends rank w/ it.

Waiting to blast new site after things settle but old site was treated like a stepchild. The .edu's were my sweet spot and I generally don't ping.
