Registration abuse

I went to the members list and searched for ".com" (without quotes) and got a list of 333 usernames that are either email addresses or domain names.

There are also 47 .net, 6 .info, 13 .org, 5 .uk, and 32 .ca just as a quick search.

I'm not certain but I don't feel it is within the scope and spirit spirit of BHW.

The following list is the first 30 of 333 of .com as an example:

Sadly I think this type of activity is actually exactly the spirit of BHW. Finding small loopholes which allow you to advertise your site freely on other peoples websites.

With the emphasis being on "other peoples websites" - NOT on BHW.

yeh especially as bhw has strict rules about new
members having no sigs / no links in posts but
then you see there user name is something like
meds.com or blast.com they were examples
and we all no there done as a means for traffic.
so surley a user with there user name of there
website should be treated the same as a user
breaking the rule of advertising without a bst
or donor rank ?

ps no forgetting thoes who use there profile
location to paste there site in so it appears
on there posts...this doesnt matter for donors
but for regular members going for sales its just
a middle finger to the rules

I hadn't thought about it in this way but you're correct.
It is like they are saying F*CK BHW and your stupid rules!
We'll do what we want to do and the hell with you!

I think they should be deleted on sight and filters setup to deal with them so
they can't register them in that manner to begin with.

No matter whether it is their username their location or their signature they
should have more RESPECT for BHW and follow the friggin rules! :yield:

To date this problem has NOT been rectified nor even addressed by BHW staff as evidenced by the lack
of comment/concern in this thread and the current copy/pastes as below.

This does NOT reflect the countless members that have their domainnames or even AFFILIATE LINKS in their personal info, etc (location, etc) and signatures.

Are we to assUme that these BLATENT VIOLATIONS are OK with BHW staff because of their lack of concern/caring and obvious lack of action?

Makes you wonder why we didn't have these FREE advertising methods in our own profile for the last few years huh?

perosnally I dont think its that bad. we all advertize our sites,but simply showing off a url is no ad in my point of view. or do they have any effect on your behaviour? do they tease you to buy or even only visit the site? in my view those people simply miss the chance to have nice and matching username, those links are even not clicklable. I never have been conviced to copy and paste such an url.
if such filter should apply, you also must apply it for the location field, which is shown in the postbit also.

Sorry, I find this post rather comical. Yeah, I get the idea, you don't mess with people where you live... But really?!? It is BHW, people will always try and find ways to game the system and get traffic, where they otherwise should not...

I mean no offense to you at all, but how is it possible anyone would get upset at people breaking the rules, when the site they are on is called "Black Hat" World?

I hope you don't get banned again, but if I were a moderator, I might be tempted.

It has become 'comical' now .....

This is about principles, respect and following the rules which obviously are not some members traits. :yield:

If I get BANNED again, at least I stood for what I believe in.

Standing for something means centering yourself on timeless principles. It means committing to live by those principles. It means leaving the crowd whenever they stray from those standards. We can't respect ourselves when we have no core worthy of our respect. If our core is no more than drift wood floating on the sea of societal norms and pop culture, or worse, of expediency, then truly there is nothing we can stand on. Only if you're anchored to something fixed and solid can you build something tall and magnificent. Anchor yourself to universal principles and fundamental truths.

You wait six months to gravedig your own thread, open your post by complaining about being banned six months ago, attempt to make some kind of point, and then finally infer that we don't do our job. Nice troll, unfortunately for you there is a price to pay. Let's put the cards on the table here, you didn't report jack until you were hit with a signature violation, like two years ago. After that you started reporting signatures every day, including some that are not violations, which we almost always respond to and clean up. Then, one night, we got flooded with reports from you about these supposed "violations". You were warned not to do that, and then you continued to do it anyway. Thus, you were banned for a short time. Yadda yadda glass houses.

We don't disallow people from using a domain name or email address as their forum nick. That's not against the rules, thus the inaction of staff in regards to that. Pretty simple concept, really.

Your other points, some of which actually harbor validity, are all easily addressed by using the report function. We rarely miss anything; if you don't see staff action taken it's usually because it's not an actual violation. When in doubt, contact a staff member directly.
