Money doesn't bring happiness, my ass!

Money doesnt buy happiness... its only a tool to be more flexible. But yes money give u more options but the things that make most people happy when they get older is love. Nothing beats having a strong partner beside u when that money is gone or somehow running low.

I will also say that it is the drive itself that makes u want the money. Money is AWESOME but its just a tool just like a computer to make life easier.

Human rely on tools to live well..

The problem with this thread is that people are talking bout having a whole bunch of crap like a fancy car...a car is a car just that simple. One should be in IM for much bigger things like paying to see the world or support their family...not for a sports car...

people are like sharks, sharks need to keep swimming or they'll die and people need to be constantly moving forward and accomplishing things and reaching goals or they become depressed. having a bunch of money and nothing real and fulfilling to do is just a recipe for some flat-out depression

Money doesn't bring happiness beyond $75,000 dollars, according to Princeton University study

Money and Happiness study

People's life evaluations rise steadily with income, but the reported quality of emotional daily experience levels off at a certain income level, according to a new study by two Princeton University professors.

Angus Deaton and Daniel Kahneman analysed over 450,000 responses to a daily survey of 1,000 randomly selected U.S. residents and found that while life evaluation rose steadily with annual income, the quality of the respondents' everyday experiences did not improve beyond approximately $75,000 a year.

Emotional well being refers to the emotional quality of an individual's everyday experience and is assessed by the respondents' report of the time spent in certain positive and negative emotional states the previous day. Life evaluation refers to a person's thoughts about his or her life and is measured by respondents' rating of their lives on a ladder scale of zero to ten.

"We find that emotional well being and life evaluation have different correlates in the circumstances of people's lives. In particular, we observe striking differences in the relationship of these aspects of well being to income," the authors note in the study. As income decreased from $75,000, respondents reported decreasing happiness and increasing sadness and stress. The data suggest that the pain of life's misfortunes, including disease, divorce, and being alone, is exacerbated by poverty.

"We conclude that lack of money brings both emotional misery and low life evaluation; similar results were found for anger," write the authors in the report. "Beyond $75,000 in the contemporary United States, however, higher income is neither the road to experienced happiness nor the road to the relief of unhappiness or stress, although higher income continues to improve individuals' life evaluations."

The study does not imply that a financial increase will not improve the quality of life, but suggests that above a certain income level, people's emotional wellbeing is constrained by other factors, such as temperament and life circumstances. The message of the study is that high incomes don't bring you happiness, but they do bring you a life that you think is better.

Dean Christina Paxson said: "This is a very important study. The findings are robust, based on an incredible data source provided by the Gallup Organization and the Healthways Corporation - a survey of 450,000 people that, for the first time, distinguishes between two important types of subjective well being, which turned out to be critical for the findings."

So yeah, money brings happiness as long as you earn <$75k/year.

Ill let you know in 12months time but I am sure in 12months I will just want more...

Money always brings hapoiness. If this is not true for you, give me money it will be true for me ...

Agree with the OP. Money and the knowledge how to use it wisely are essential for happiness. Those who invented the phrase "Money can't buy happiness" clearly have no idea what they are talking about.

When I still had a job I was able to help a few people in need, suport them and such. You would be surprised how much even 10$ can do for someone who is truly poor. It's enough to buy you food for a week in some countries. Imagine how many people could be happy again, if they received some of that money, the same money some claim "can't buy hapiness". By helping others this way, you do "buy happiness" for them, and through that, maybe also for yourself. At least I know I was happy even though I shared almost half of what I earned back then (and I didn't earn much at all, perhaps 400$/mo, as I myself live in a relatively poor country) And I know I will share once more, happily, if I find a way to earn money again.

Listen to ma homie MnM.

Money can't buy happiness, but it can (and certainly) contribute to it though. Was Amy Winehouse happy? I doubt it. Everybody got his ups and downs, no matter how much you have in your bank account. There is so much things between money and hapiness, of course there is a link between these two words, but that link is made of things such as helping people in the need, providing for your family / people close to you, social needs, self accomplishment, etc. I believe more in the pyramid of Maslow rather than just money for being happy. Money is part of it, of course, but it's not everything.

Its spending money that makes you happy, not just having money. Having money makes you feel secure and safe.

That bullshit line was made up by one of these people:

1) An anti social rich prick who had no friends in life.

2) A monk who lived in a fucking mountain all his life.

3) A broke idiot who never had enough money to enjoy life.

If you use money as a tool to get what you aim for in life, it will help you be happy. If you get obsessed with money and that's all you think about, then it will turn you into a soulless asshole and you will die alone. That's not money's fault though. It's all about you.

LOL! Laughed so much at this and agree at the same time.:D
It's not the fault of money but the individual. You have freewill and the ability to decide what to follow in life.:D

Money isn't everything in life, but make sure you make enough of it before you talk such nonsense!:p tats my only Moto! :D

Well having no money is more depressing that having money.
And if I would be rich then my biggest fear would be to be poor again, which could lead to this greed to make more and more until you are unhappy and insecure all the time.
