Money doesn't bring happiness, my ass!

Money might not bring hapyness for everything, but it can sure bring happyness for the biggest part.

so you got billions of dollars but you have cancer or diabetes or you lost your kid to -any disease- or you can't find a real friend to talk to will you be happy?

one of the best quotes:
"You are so poor that money is all you've got"

if you were poor you could have cancer or diabetes too.

if you were poor you might not find any real friends either

the point is money can and often does bring happiness

there is not a negative or nonexistant correlation between money + happiness (meaning more money equals less or no increase in happiness)

agreed on the religion part, not on the no such thing as karma thing.

To be 100% honest, my favorite thing since this year started is buying things for the first time in my life without asking how much it costs first. I've been helping one of my sisters financially since she's broke and it's the best feeling knowing my nephew is not going to have a deprived childhood due to lack of money like my sisters and I did growing up. The only dream I had as a child was to break the cycle of all the shit we went through as kids for our families and it's finally becoming a reality. Gonna stop talking now though cause I'm getting a bit nostalgic. :o

Being able to afford stuff without thinking how much it costs is a huge load off your chest.

It does bring happiness, but it's found that when you exceed to make $75,000 a year, it has diminishing effects. I'm majoring in Psychology. :)

So you need more things to bring you happiness. But I think money does bring happiness because you can buy things that you like to collect OR do things that you like to do.

Fock that shit, we are closing the internet shop I am working at,any day in the next 2 weeks, then I am going home and locking myself at my flat with my 150mbits internet and won't get out until i make some more on IM.
talk about money and hapiness!

If you want to become somewhat wealthy, learn about Personal Finance planning and business math. It will help you understand where you are wasting your money, which will help you to make better decisions and increase your earnings. The difference between the 1% and 99% is mainly attitude.

You guys are confusing happiness and stress. Lack of money can cause stress. If you or your partner are too focused on money then it will stress relationships. Having money can alleviate or eliminate that stress.

If you are miserable and poor, simply becoming rich will not change that you are miserable. Likewise, If you were happy poor then you will remain happy rich.

Agree!

Actually, I should elaborate. This has been well studied long before we were born. Any of you who have been to college have probably been taught maslow's pyramid of needs

http://www.valuebasedmanagement.net/leaders_maslow_hierarchy.html

Money can play into several of them.

Physiological - do you need to stress about a roof over your head or where you'll get your next meal? If you have money then this need is met.

Safety - Money can also fill this need. If you're in the ghetto and you feel unsafe, money can get you into a nice safe place where you do not feel in danger. If you feel unsafe because of an abusive spouse or something, money will not change that and you will remain unhappy.

belonging & love - This is the big need where people with money can remain unhappy. Money will NOT fill this need. If you long for friends or a relationship, money will not help. If anything, chasing money makes you lose them, and at best you gain fake ones who are just there for your money and you know it. If this need was met when you were broke but other needs were not, and those were the needs making you unhappy, then money will indeed make you happy. If this need was not met, and remains unmet, you will remain miserable no matter how much money you get.

Self esteem - Money can certainly gain you respect, recognition, and a sense of achievement. If you lack self esteem because you are unhappy about your body or some other issue, money alone won't change that.

Self actualization - If you are successful and have money, again this need is usually met or atleast easy as hell for you to meet.

Assuming you have other needs taken care of, like love and whatnot, money DOES bring happiness. The more money you have, the more freedom you enjoy, to do whatever the fuck you want. The more freedom you enjoy, the happier you are, as you don't have to worry about restrictions, be they of material or other nature. Don't know who said it but "I've been rich and I've been poor. Rich is better" seems spot on.

"Money doesn't bring happiness" is possibly the biggest crock of shit in history, right up there with religion. Must've been coined by some stinking rich people, in order to keep laborers happy with their low level of wealth, so they don't try to get rich too.

There are rich people that are not happy. There is your conterexample.

Agree, as well. Thought if you get money, you can focus on things that you enjoy, thus decreasing your miserableness. lol.

I know what it is like to be poor...and I know for a fact that money does make you happier.

Some people go on saying that rich people are more stressed because they need to make more and more money, and have more responsibilities or something? All that kind of talk is bullshit and there are 10x more stress for poorer people.

Money opens up opportunities and allows you to relax without having to worry about a thing, apart from what color you want your next lambo to be!

I could only laugh while reading your post. It's right, but the part I quoted isn't necessary true. lol.

Like I said earlier if you didn't read it, studies show people in the US - when they make OVER $75,000 a year, that has diminishing effects on people. That is the average amount of Americans. I don't know why, maybe they are happy - they have everything they need, but now are lost because they can't decide OR, they are lonely. Not sure. But this effect is called the Hedonic Treadmill. Money can only bring us so much happiness. Then, we need other things.

So it's not completely bullshit lol. It was just a Psychology study that happened a while ago. It's not my own study lol.
