HELP! I've gotten 3 viruses in 3 Months!

So . . you probably download torrents, click on blind links, install java'plugins' when visiting a site that prompts you, never check software given to you by unknowns, etc.

First read up on how a virus is delivered and you'll minimize your virus intake. Second as was mentioned in the thread set up a virtual box for when you want to get a bit more wild.

Oracle VM virtual box is freeware. Also do yourself a favor and scan any torrent you download, download from the bh download section, and don't install java plugins when prompted. Use a scanner like virustotal's online scanner

It's possible (in fact very possible) that some of the sites that sbox is hitting are infected. That's a possibility with many tools that harvest tonnes of web sites and then interact with those sites - it's not the tool itself, but the fact that so many sites are infected.

Two options (use one or both, IMHO) - run your target lists through sbox's malware check add-on before using them; and/or run kaspersky and mbam in the background while you're running sbox campaigns.

As far as virus protection. Get Kaspersky. My real business is computer based and our company makes good money removing viruses daily. Those saying AVG, Avast, Norton, McAfee or Microsoft Security Essentials will do the trick obviously don't do repairs much. Practically all the infected systems we see have one of these programs installed.

Although I do love people running around recommended these worthless products because it keeps us busy making money; Kaspersky is the a/v to use if you want protection. I've been reselling it for 3 years to customers infected with viruses and "knock on wood" I've never seen a customer come in with a valid and up-to-date Kaspersky running, with a repeat infection. I can't say that about any of the others. I've seen all of those come in with infections. Most run Norton because ISPs are bundling them but you're only fooling yourself if you think it's protecting you.

Get Kaspersky and each license can be used on 3 different computers. They don't need to be in the same household so split the subscription with a buddy. Also don't miss the last week of November every year when you can get all subscriptions half off. They do this every year between black Friday and 1st of December. I usually pick up 5 subs to protect 15 computers.

Ever tried NOD32? With my tests it looked a little higher thank Kaspersky in terms of detecting without definitions for custom-written infections.

But if you do it daily, I value your opinion.

oh well use malwarebytes and i use norton internet security 90 day version. just remove and reinstall at end of 90 days works fine. never had any virus for the past many years .

Personally I don't use it but I have several business clients with multiple licenses for their Corporations and none of them have ever been infected. Given that each Corp has about 100 computers used by their employees I'd say it must be a pretty good a/v.

VIPRE and Nod 32 are the 2 best programs on the market period. For free ones, Avira has won awards for detection. My favorite 3 way combo for a long time was Malwarebytes, Spybot, and Avira.

i have tried nod32 as well as kaspersky .both of them have crashed at times due to stubborn malware even with latest updates.

I have a great combination that is free
1.Get Avast free antivirus
2.Install Superantispyware(FREE)
3.Get a good Firewall i recommend Comodo Firewall also free
4.Forget about viruses

I'm a big fan of MS Security Essentials. It seems to be the only virus scanner that is truly "background": I don't notice it all until it finds something.

Then again, I never get viruses or malware. If they're coming from the suspicious and fishy programs that you're running and using, check out http://www.sandboxie.com/. It will isolate any given program to prevent it from making permanent changes to your computer.

I am using Kaspersky Pure and Malwarebytes and my computer is always clean!
I recommend you to download Malwarebytes as no malware can get pass it.

NOD 32 here no problems. One time I did have a virus but when I did a scan it took care of it. Dont know how it got in...
