Domains with dashes or non .com. Which would you choose?

Yup even I would go with .ORG or .NET if they are available. It is best to avoid hyphens as far as possible. SEO wise hyphens make little to no difference but the sites lose out when people type the URLs to visit the site.

as for SEO, one hypen wont matter much..
but id rather take NET or ORG
they rank the same as COM

If you're expecting a SEO bonus, my opinion is if there are dashes you don't get any bonus. A .net or .org without dashes than a .com with.

Awesome thanks for the info guys. I normally hit exacts or long tails .coms but don't have option this time...

I appreciate it...

Agreed, Although i will say that there is nothing wrong with dashes. If the top 3 extensions are unavailable then i won't think twice about getting the domain with dashes.

Thanks dude...

To me, it depends upon how I am using the link. If I expect people to remember the link, I would use one-word (longtail). If I am using them in emails (links), I do not mind a hyphen.

I am very hesitant about using .net. I am OK with .org IF my audience will agree that it is a .org type domain. In that case, I always try to secure the .com as well.

Back to .net - if my competition is .com and only .net is available, I look for something else.

IMHO, i prefer the .net, both as a surfer, and as an IMer

According to my opinion chicagodonuts net is very good and you will take this domain easily...

Ok, with regards to the above, which one woul you chose of these...

echicagodoghnuts. cm
or
chicago-doughnuts. cm

Well, It depends on your goal really...

If you are looking to build an authority site, then I would suggest you go with the .com extension because it obviously brings more branding.

But if just want to build a micro niche website, go with the .net one.

what about;
chicagodonutss.com if tyou are thinking of a typo domain

or

chicagodonutz.com ?

I also had the same question in mind. It's a good thing you asked before I did :D

Typo domains can make cash. I have several that each generate $20-$50/month simply serving as a redirect to my Affiliate link. This works with typo's in .com addresses and buying .co's that the company has not purchased.

I do have some that did not make money and I let those expire. Also, I found some for places that do not have Affiliate programs and did a redirect to Amazon.com and make some coin.
