Domain names with hyphens

I mostly work with micro-sites and parked domains so I know that if I didn't use hyphens I would miss out on a lot of quality domains. From testing out domains with and without hyphens I haven't really seen it affect its rankings.

I'm guessing you are looking at a scenario where not using a hyphen might give the domain a different meaning than the one you intended. I would go with the hyphen

Thanks. I am looking at some new sites and it appears hyphens are the way to go.

For the main domain don't use hyphens. Just assume that people are retards. It's better if they just type a bunch of letters in a row.

I think they're good for SEO, but hard for remembering and should be avoided.

I just regestered one with 2 hyphens in it and its a .net domain too. It isnt that competitive. Ill keep you posted.

There is nothing wrong with hyphen, but they don't get an exact match bonus like the non hyphens do.

I have a two hyphen on its way for some good loan terms.

Hyphen is a keyword separator... It does not hamper your ranking, instead gives you benefit (your domain may get ranked for all the keywords separated by hyphens)

Yes and all the people who search for these keywords with hyphens in between them will find you.

From my point of view it doesn't matter if you have hyphen in micro niches if all your traffic will be organic. Its actually better as you will rank keywords better.

I think it has no different for ranking, but when you want to tell your website from mouth to mouth...you know it's hard to say when the domain has hyphen..

I had ranked well on websites with hyphens in its domain name. I have heard that it is better not to use them, but if you just have to, go for it.

Actually I would say avoid with hyphens. Because I've several domains with hyphens, they are very hard to rank than without hyphen domains. But I rank for 6th position on 1st page for one of keyword. But couldn't move on to upper. Still doing some sort of SEO to move up. So avoid them. But if you can't avoid, then buy it and work hard.

I am ranking for keywords like "kw1 kw2" without a hassle with kw1-kw2.com . kw1kw2.org is above me though :)
