Quick n' Dirty Guide to Charon - Free, Good Proxy Checker

yeah i mean proxy, sorry, i've clicked on check anonymity of all proxies, and charon started to chacking validity of my jugde, but when he finished the list of proxies is still empty, sorry for my english. is my first time using a proxy so i'm noob :P.

Ok ... if you've selected "Check the anonymity of all proxies" then it'll check the anonymity of the proxies in the list. If that list is empty, it won't take very long at all.

To populate the list with proxies - the two easiest ways are either
  • Take a list of proxies (such as in the proxylists subforum here) and paste them into the program
  • Use the inbuilt search-engine routines to scour the net looking for public servers.

I'd suggest that the copy and paste approach might be easiest for now. Give that a go, get some proxies in the list, and then try verifying them.

yeah dude, i've done all you say to me but i don't get the list like in the pictures http://img504.imageshack.us/my.php?image=09checkeh7.png , mine is empty, ooooooh i seee, i've got it, i think. ty for now

Just to confirm .... you did actually upload this to a server hosted on the internet (as in, fully qualified domain name reachable from the web) and not just some random pc you have with a php engine installed?
Sure - it's on my web site.
As for TI I raised my record to 5K views when I ran only one instance of the program with 250 working public-pages-proxies, 2.5M internet connection speed and 30sec delay (several times less than that seemed to be harmful to the account. Didn't want to take the risk once more). And that's only middling to fair - better than the max 1K I had before, far from 40K.

how do i load the lists. i right click and select load and pick something bbut nothing happens

By format, I mean a ".txt" file containing what?

If you're loading proxies, they should be in the format of
Code:
hostname:port
ip_address:port
hostname:port
ip_address:port
etc.

hmmm mine arent in that format. where can i find a list like that
<troll alert suspended for this post>

Where have you looked? There are lists in many places (including googling for 'proxylist') so the fact you've asked does say a few things about how much effort you've put in.

If they're not in that format, what format are they in?
Converting them should be a relatively simple matter providing they actually contain the data. Why not post a couple of lines from the file and we'll go from there?

sorry i was looking for a list as i typed that

i found a list so all i have to do is make a new txt doc, paste it then load it into the program?

If you already have it on the clipboard, just paste it straight into the program.

I am sure I will get a read the forum answer. I believe I recall seeing where you should not scan for proxies from your home ISP as this could get your home account taken away.

Is this the same as running proxies in Charon to test them as good?

Not at all the same.

Scanning IPs is what you're talking about, that entails checking whole ranges of IPs for open ports. Simple checking through a tool like Charon is done by checking very specific IPs in a much less aggressive fashion.

Hi there rhino!

Please pardon my ignorance but you're the creator of this brilliant programme aren't you?

I used to read posts from you in a couple of forums you used to either own or be a part of (about 2 years ago).

Awesome to see you part of this forum!

My apologies for such a late reply to this topic. I'm still learning about using this forum (any forum for that matter) and I've just realised there is more than 1 page to the posts here.

Thanks so much for your very, very helpful information here. As you've stated in a couple posts here it's all in the configurations, and indeed I didn't have some things set right.
"Every problem so far has been an incorrect configuration. I haven't found anyone that can't use the program ywt."

Mainly my problem was not placing the correct judges into the top box as explained as follows:
"Inside the judge options there is a 'Test Judges' button - use that to test them.
I've had a great number of people not 'get' this dialog, so don't take it as patronising when I sk if you've moved the 'good' proxies to the top box?

Judges selected to use - These are the ones Charon will cycle through.
Unused Judges - These won't be used - they're just there in case you want to use them later.

Make sure you have at least one good working judge (that passed the test) in the top box and that you've selected "Use External Judge(s)" in the "Connect Options" dialog."

Also, would you recommend using the internal judge or an external judge to check a list of proxies that I'd paste into Charon?

Again rhino, I'd like to thank you for your brilliant programme and for your kind and helpful assistance here!

Happy New Year to you and yours mate!

No, not really. It could happen, however, if you have the following combination:
  • Searching the search engines
  • 'Test proxies with current settings' checked which will test them before adding the found ones to the list
  • Incorrctly set up test paramaters which means that none will ever pass.
So, basically, we should check out the settings.

Inside the judge options there is a 'Test Judges' button - use that to test them.

I mean paste a recent list (from a forum or similar) into Charon, then right click on one (some) and select "Test selected proxy(ies)"

I meant to watch your network traffic to determine what connections were being made - to see if the program was actually trying to test anything. We can get back to this later if needed.

Thanks so much! I have been looking for a program like this for years. It makes everything very simple and gives us the anonymity that should be our right as internet users.

Ok, I have my list of anonymous proxies. In Charon, what does it mean when the column, "site, " says good or bad? This was a little confusing because there is also a column that is titled "connect." Which obviously mean that you're either able to connect to the proxy or not. Please clarify and correct me if I'm wrong in my thinking here.
