On-page or Off-page???

Another thing about only on-page SEO. You can rank very well at first, and as time goes on, the lack of activity on the site will gradually draw your site down in the SERPs.

I had a site called loopbackplugs dot c and it sold only loopack plugs for computer repair people. I built a 5 page site, keyword in the domain name, and it went to spot one in 2 months. Over the next year it fell from 1 to 15 because I did this as an experiment to see if the exact sdomain name made much difference, and I did not promote the site at all except to link to it once from my computer repair site to get it indexed.

Inactivity on a site will kill your rankings.
That is a really good example.I agree to you.Thanks.

Just to add on to that, maintaining site activity isn't only about building continuous backlinks to the site, keeping it updated (for both pages or sites) is pretty good as well.

I've had sites that start to rank well just from on-page factors but they need some good off-page link building to get to the top. I would build links to any page that you want to stick around on the first page.

That second post is terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE advice.

There is nothing about onpage SEO that is the "only" important thing. Fact is, they're all important. Why? Because if you have no competition, then you are the competition. And if I come along and see your site in my SERPs with no onpage, I'm going to push you out of my way like a toddler on black Friday.

You need to analyze your competition, check their onpage factors and do AT LEAST that. If you're wanting to come into SERPs with nothing but offpage, that is not only a WEAK strategy, but short term and short sighted as well. (Unless you're just trying to rank some crappy IM site.)

If you want to rank your BUSINESS.. Then you need to solidify it in place, you don't want to risk your business' position because you're lazy and want to take the SERPs with AA ScrapeBox comments. You need to do everything as far as onsite, and to say that title, meta desc (really? Meta desc means NOTHING for SEO!) and content are the only important factors is ridiculous.

- Your title is #1 of course.
- Your URL should be SEO... site.com/category/keyword
- Your images should be ALT! (If not, you just lost a place for keyword!)
- ALL your links should be TITLE! (Again, one more keyword. Whether it's external or menu. ALL!)
- Your navigation should represent the site structure, much like a sitemap.
- Your content should be formatted. (H1, H2, B, I, U.)
- You should have a sitemap.

These are the very basics of onsite SEO and if you think default installing WP is going to take care of even just this, you're sadly mistaken.

Do not skimp on your onsite, how much you're willing to put into onsite is directly related to how much you'll HAVE to put into offsite. If your onsite is 0 and mine is 100, you will require 100X more back links than I will for equal ranking. So if you want to sit around link building all day, ignore onsite, but don't say I didn't warn you when you're wondering why competition with 5% the amount of links as you is outranking your site.

Think of it this way... Say you're a body builder and your competition also is. But he has a gym at his house (onsite) and a membership to another gym (offsite.) You, only have a membership to a gym (offsite.) At home, you lift cans of peas to exercise.

Who is going to HAVE to go to the offsite gym more? You are, because much of his work is done at home. So he only has to come into the gym to achieve things his home gym does not support.. Basically, just to tone up. You have to do EVERYTHING at the offsite gym.

And while you can still beat him at some body builder competition... In order to do it, you spent every single day at the offsite gym. He may have gone in there for a few minutes here and there. However, if he does both (which he can, because having at-home gyms are magic and you can be in 2 places at once).. He will stomp your mudhole.

Onsite is not hard, it's very easy. Be wary some of the advice you receive around here regarding it as well.. For some reason, many people here think that onsite is simply "handled by WP" or is not important. These people mostly do not understand fundamental search engine optimization, they just understand that if you run XRumer and ScrapeBox enough, some magic box in Mountain View will cast a spell on their site and it will rank.

SEO is not magic.. It's very basic logic.

My advice is: don't ignore on-page SEO, it can help you a lot but off-page SEO is way more important, do them both rand your doing it right.

But don't forget, backlinks and more backlinks is the real key.

After Panda update On-Page SEO is more important than it was before but offsite is still necessary so why not do both and dominate?

Yes, I agree with you...Both are very important in SEO...What makes SEO if you only focused on On-Page...The off page are useful when you're in a competition...More quality backlinks - high in searches!

dude... Foundation of Great ranking is ON-Page but without Off-page you can not make it top top place for competitive Keywords.
however Your Keyword are Ryt now on Good place but if you will provide bit effort with off page you will see effect of this.
in Full SEO Percentage of OFF-page always have leads since with the off-page optimization you can place your keyword on top and with that only you can place it there for Long if you don't have Good PR.

On page and off page are two hand of SEO. SEO never neglect any one of them. A combination of both increase your site visitor, help to improve page rank, get visibility to your site all this happen through your targeted keyword.

if you are using wordpress then you are done your already good seo on-page and remaing work will be done by off-site seo this is also a good option for your site but for off-site seo will be done with good link otherwise it's not give good result

On-page is not hard but you must be smart enough to check your competitor's keywords with meta description also.

onpage is the requirement while off page is your hardwork..
read up more in this forum and apply them..good luck :)

That doesn't make *any* sense. First of all you ask a stupid question, then someone actually takes the time to write out a long, detailed and excellent reply and you say the above to them?

wtf?

Smart enough to check your competitor's keywords WITH meta description? That just makes no sense in ANY context let alone in response to meatro's advice.

You seem like you're just posting for the sake of posting.

I strive to get a 100% or A+ for the on page SEO for my targeted KW. I do this for every landing page that I make on a website. Many times these pages will start ranking on the 1st page of serp before any off site SEO is done. To me this is a good idea of how important the on page SEO really is.

When your on page is 100% it makes everything you do off page work that much better.

Thats very valid indeed.

Haha, I wasn't sure which way to go with that reply, so I left it alone. :)

Good on page is a must for good rankings. Off page SEO is important only after you have your on-page to a passable level in my opinion.

That's really surprising that you could achieve good SERP results without ANY off-page SEO. No doubt backlinks are crazy important, more important than on-page in the long run. I'd definitely start re-focusing your attention to balance out the two a bit better, over doing your on-page wont get you as far as an even balance.

I am doing some off-page now also but in start I only did on-page using an ebook and got great results.
