Point taken, but I disagree.
Why? Because you have genetics, history and culture on your side telling you from a young age to win. Compete with the other boys and be better than them, this is how you get things in life.
Most women (my experience again is USA only) is.. Look pretty, like this shiny thing and giggle with your friends about the best boys. So to completely overcome (NO OFFENSE!!!!) this mentality and switch it around entirely is much more than what you've done, which is just go with the flow of what you know.
As for women having the advantage based on help, I disagree with this as well. Sure, they may get the help they're looking for, but that's NOT PRACTICE. Remember, practice, practice, practice, practice! If I bat my eyes and ask you really sweet to open this jar for me... I have not gotten ANY better at opening jars.
So.. I am not referring to obstacles such as reading, learning, absorbing information. I am talking about completely going against not only what you learned growing up, but what people continue to push on you. They see commercials for Greys Anatomy and say "no, I have to do this!" You see a commercial for Greys Anatomy and say, "WTF, what a stupid ass show. I'd much rather do this."
Much like if you were a world champion.. Iunno.. Knitter. I'd say you most likely overcame much more than those old ladies who were raised to love knitting, knitted for 70 years and knitted books about knitting. Why? Because your BRAIN did not spend the beginning saying, "wow, I love knitting!" It was saying, "I wonder if I can throw this pointy thing and make it stick in that cup across the room. NO!! I must knit!"
