Threatened by Phone Call

I think I'll take your advice and blow off this threat. I'll probably continue what I was doing as soon as the privacy protection I bought for the domain comes into effect, when I whois the domain. Anyone have an idea how long this will take?

40ish!!! New York!!!! Bullet in your head!!! aaaahhhh You dealing with a Mafia head:eek:

Oh god, I hope not :p

i think acting as a police was a damn good idea haha.. maybe he will piss himself hahahaha

The bad thing is is that your whois is pretty much stored forever and there are services where you can find out all changes on a domain name. Therefore, your not really protected except from stupid users. I once reported a spammer site abusing my domain and the guy at the web hosting company did research on me pulled up old records on all my domains and then tried blackmailing me basically saying he was going to report me for copyright infringement... Unlucky for him the files i was hosting for people were unlicensed. The hosting company also banned my domain from sending them email so I couldn't even make a reply.

As a side note I'd like to warn people of:
Code:
[B]www.chello.nl[/B]
These guys host loads of spammers. I keep having to ban their IP's and every trace I do keeps popping them up. After I sent several threatening seize and desist letters warning them of civil and criminal lawsuits for damages and illegal activities I think they took the accounts of the spammers down but d@mn they host some annoying people. Because of those jack @ss spammers a domain of my is now flagged by the firefox WOT addon which really pisses me off because it makes me look non-reputable. If anyone would like my list of known spammer IP's I'm willing to share. Though many of their hosting accounts are now dead. PM 4 list.

To bad you were spamming... Otherwise you could call the FBI and that guy would be locked up for years. Since what you did is also a Felony on multiple counts I wouldn't go calling the law unless it gets really serious.

I was serious, keep fucking around and I will shoot you in the face!

Or you can send me some cash thru paypal, and I'll leave you alone... ;)

For peace of mind you could drop the domain name you're using now and start
all over again. New domain, same method.

Why not just GIVE these folks the darn password after the complete the offer? What will it hurt? You get what you want and they get what they want. it's ok to go about blackhat to some degree to get what you need, but IF there IS a way to make the end used-user happy, why not just take that extra step, it's no sweat off yur back for 2 minutes of extra time and no one out there will be sending you evil hate thoughts. Whatever I do , that is not whitehat, I try to make the end user happy if they do what I have "asked" them to do. If anything, it makes me feel better.

Just me 2 cents

To give the password, just tell them the password is the 4th, 12th or 8th word on the thank you page... then just make that the password for real.

First rule, dude, never use your real info for black hat things! It should be clear as a day! Who knows, maybe he is a fuckin maniac and will want to give you a lesson :D lol! Did you see the Joy Ride movie...? Hahaha! He will come in his truck and tear off your jaw!
But seriously, if you are worried, buy another domain, put some fake info there (but looking real however), try to cloak CPA link or use different from the previous you used and go on with your torrents. God bless you!

So I have tried various black hat methods in the past, but it has been the first time that I have had an experience like this. Recently, I've been using the password torrent method, promising downloaders the password if they complete a CPA offer. Apparently I pissed someone off, because they did a whois search on the domain I hosted the offer on, and called me this morning with quote "stop fucking with people before you get a bullet in your head". I'm guessing the person is a 40ish year old guy with some New Yorker accent. Needless to say, I bought whois privacy for that domain soon after.

My question is, what should I do now? Just ignore this threat and continue on with black hat methods? Or take heed of this threat as a possible danger? Thanks.

OMG, that sounds scary! Whois privacy and/or bogus contact info is a MUST for all your domains...

damn u should trace the call and find out who he is, and take him out first aha (yea right)

When registering for a domain that you will use for black hat then why use reall details in first place? lol
I would probably shit myself if I got a call like that cuz im only 16 lol. hahahaha

Get a bullet-proof helmet ^^.

Speaking seriously, since you don't know whether the guy is serious or not, I would recommend you to drop the domain and start up on a new one with privacy. That simple.

Yes...I agree totally!

Use privacy not only for your blackhat domains but for your whitehat domains also.

The majority of my domains are registered with Namecheap however I was receiving calls and letters from unknown domain registrars soliciting me to renew my domains with their services.

I finally realized that they obtained my contact info from whois searches and therefore, I immediately protected ALL of my domains.

Lesson learned!

I registered a new domain that I intend to use for various BH related money-making ideas,
and the first thing I did was to get 'WhoIs Guard' for the account. It also keeps spammers
from sending you endless piles of junk mail.

If one is doing Black-Hat work, then privacy is a must. Someone should write a basic report
about safety in the Black Hat world. Don't assume that everyone knows about hiding their
info, many people are quite ignorant about how open the internet really is!

get some whois protection, stop using your real name, then buy this if your really paranoid
