13 year old .com recently de-indexed...Still worth anything..?

Hi guys,

Few months ago I let a so called 'SEO' expert mess with my 13+ year old domain...(i know...should have known better at my age...!)

Result was that it was de-indexed from big G, and can't get back in no matter what I do.

Question is. Is it worth anything? Should I try it on Flippa?

Let it be there for a while, and see if the domain pops in G back.

If it is about to be expired, and still not in the index, you may want to let it go.

Value depends on alot of things like the actual domain name itself, extension etc, just because its deindexed doesnt mean its worthless.

Do some on site changes rather than off site to start with - actually change the content so that the search engines see its changed, then work on getting very high relevant links from high PR sites to get it back indexed, probably take max 2 months work

Removed total content and re-populated with unique content, but still not indexed. Already has high PR links. Even tried tho old SEDO 'parking trick' for a few months but G really doesn't like me......

The only way you will be able to sell it is if you get a complete newbie. To create any value you will have to rebuild it and put in a reconsideration request.

Usually it's on site factors that get sites deindexed, particularly thin sites, doorway passages etc.

If the domain has been penalized, and not permanently banned, then yes.

But since there's no way to confirm that which one of the two it is, we can only guess.

If your site is completley de-indexed including your homepage then one of 2 things would of happened.

1. Google has devalued all of your links causing no pagerank to point to your site.

2. Google has banned your site.

To resolve this situation you should build fresh links to your hompage and submit a reconsideration request in webmaster tools.

If your site has been banned then you receive the follow message:

Dear site owner or webmaster of yourdomain.com/,
We received a request from a site owner to reconsider yourdomain.com/ for compliance with Google's Webmaster Guidelines.
We've reviewed your site and we believe that some or all of your pages still violate our quality guidelines.
In order to preserve the quality of our search engine, pages from yourdomain.com/ may not appear or may not rank as highly in Google's search results, or may otherwise be considered to be less trustworthy than sites which follow the quality guidelines.
If you wish to be reconsidered again, please correct or remove all pages that are outside our quality guidelines. When such changes have been made, please visit ************** and resubmit your site for reconsideration.

If you receive the above kind of message then your site has either been banned for legal purposed or you have links/pages on your site that are frowned upon by Google. In this situation I would remove all external links on your site and submit another reconsideration request.

For your comfort I have yet to come across a domain that I could not get back into Google and I occasionally buy expiring domains that have been de-indexed.

Yeah, spill the beans on what they did or otherwise the de-indexing could be classified as an anecdotal coincidence, user error, etc., etc. Some other questions to answer:

Did you use a reputable SEO service?
Where they implementing any known site killer tactics?

As far as what to do, the first thing is never panic. From the sounds of it, that's what you did with the list of moves that you took. Personally. I would not have changed the content on the site but that is water under the bridge now.

As Fathom stated, I also have never seen a site that was de-indexed that has not been re-instated. That includes sites with doorway pages, cloaked sites and the such.

Of all of the co.cc sites that were burned by G, all of mines are back as they were before. I didn't touch them, didn't change a thing, just kept building BLs to them as normal. I also didn't send G are reconsideration request on any of those sites. Sometimes, it just takes time.

Just put in a reconsideration request if it is a legitimate site. The site is 13 years old, if it has any intrinsic value you should be able to just say you hired some shitty company to help you with web promotions and they did something that fucked your site up in Google Search. Don't admit to knowing anything else about it, act the clueless business owner whose been stung by a third party. With a site that old they should sort something out, unless this isn't the first time its happened.

Tip:

If possible, change registrar, whois info and nameservers (point to a different server/webhosting service) prior to adding completely new (and rich) content. Then let it "vent a little" before doing the whole sending a reconsideration request.

Din't do anything stupid

1. if this the 1st penalty -> it will last 1 month only. after that you will get back to your previous position step by step (gradually)

meanwhile analyse your backlinks and try to clean the messy stuff (if you can)

2. .. if nothing changes after 30 days - write an email to G and explain that you have outsourced a guy who's killed the rankings
