SEO client- 8100 searches, already on page 3

If you are going to go down that road why dont you just offer a money back guarantee?

You can promote your SEO service by saying, 1st page ranking guarantee and if you dont hit it in 60 days give them a refund. This way you dont hit it you did it free, you do hit it you get to keep the money.

This is financial suicide, you'll be lucky to get 1 in 20 paying you.
Very bad business strategy my friend, local businesses are the tightest, they'll take anything free. You are also massively devalueing yourself and the service in the process.

I'd say getwhatchuwant's idea is solid business idea.

Do NOT get their places listing in the top 3,it's not easy to budge them and they will laughing their socks off getting it for free.

Do yourself a favour and remove the ad.Don't find out the hard way local businesses don't give a toss. It's hard enough getting money out of them anyway let alone offfering to rank them for free and praying they will sign up to a monthly deal.

I ask for 2 months upfront(or the equivalent) no exceptions, building the links is where the work is,keeping them there only needs a small amount of decent pr links a month (20 links,20 mins work with scrapebox).

So you are doing the hard work free on the basis they will sign up,and what if they don't?

Also you're jumping the gun,if the 8100 searches have a high cpc it's guaranteed there will be some very powerful sites in the top 2 pages.
I assume you checked out the first page to see if there are any authority sites which may prove difficult to pass.

To top it off you're doing this manually, good luck figuring out the pr of the comment sites (10 decent pr comments will be worth more linkwise then 2k of crap).

The only smart way of doing this is if you have a blog network. You put them on the blog network and get them to the first page. You email them and tell them they're on first page of google, if they want to stay there it will be $399/month for you to continue to build links and increase their reputation. Just make up a bunch of crap. They say no. You remove their links from the network,t hey fall off the front page, and contact you to get back up there.

Makes sense, although its hard to get someone to pay you for shit you have never done. Im also kinda doing it to just see if it will work

I like this idea, will try

UPDATE: I have been going after their keyword for a little while now. Yesterday they moved from page 3 to page 2, and now today they are back to page 3, even lower then they were before. They also gave me access to their blog which I screwed. LOL I am cracking up writing this, I hope they are just doing the google dance and will land at a higher ranking. See what I mean by free guys?! I have a noobs idea of what Im doing lol. ALSO, I talked to the guys the day they were on page 2, and THEY brought up paying me monthly to get and keep them on page one. :) Hope this shit ends up working lol.

Am I google dancing?

So you started backlinking, got lower than they were before, screwed up their blog, and you're laughing about it? I'd suggest taking this more seriously if you're going to survive in this business.

I've read this on the forum a couple days ago but it also applies to you. "It's people like you who give SEO a bad name."

I'd say learn how to do SEO yourself before you offer it to other people. Either that or just whitelabel some SEO service so you don't mess up their business.

Buddy, their blog was one article. I changed the theme and lost the categories. I posted comments on high PR blogs, set up a squidoo lens and submitted an article to article base. Don't blame me for giving SEO a bad name, (this is the first Ive heard of SEO having a bad name) especially while your out their content locking, spamming and scamming people for CPA offers or some shit

I don't know where you got the idea that I do content locking, spamming or scam people with CPA offers, but I work purely offline and I do SEO for other businesses as my primary source of income. I know what I'm doing because I learned how to do SEO on my own websites before I started offering it as a service. I was simply saying that before you do SEO for other people, learn how first. What you're doing sounds like offering people haircuts just because you've seen people cut your hair before (for the lack of a better metaphor).

I said what I said because judging from what you've posted, you aren't taking this seriously. For all you know, this may be their only way of providing food on the table. They hired you because they think that you will provide value and that you know what you are doing.

All I am saying is, take this a bit more seriously. Use this client as a learning experience. Take what you learn here and apply it to your future clients.

I hear what you saying, and in reality I do take it seriously. When the keyword jumped up a page, I talked to the guy and he mentioned paying me a monthly fee if I could get him and keep him on page 1. So I am very interested in making this work and repeating it for a nice little income. I have ranked my own blogs pretty well, by writing quality content and lots of it. I never ranked just a static website so yea it is a little new to me. Either way, I hear what your saying

Gman, this is how I landed my first SEO client. In 14 days I got him to page 1 and he started getting leads. He was more than happy to pay and gave me a great testimonial.

In fact, my first business i owned was a decorative concrete company and I can't tell you how much work I gave away in the beginning to get things going. I wouldn't be where I'm at today without taking that risk.

Good luck, you are on the right path.

Awesome stuff. Anything special you did to get them to rank? I am doing the basics.....with not to much success so far but I am chugging along

When you get lemons make lemonade.

Even though he went back to 3 he DID get to 2 for a moment. this is your leverage into a long term relationship.

"Mr Customer, I finally got you to page one, but as you saw for yourself, getting there is half the battle, staying there is the war. I am sure the site we bumped out of the 10th position down to page 2 is going to come back with a vengeance!"

Anyhow, if they have one article I would focus on getting 4 or 5 good articles on the site pronto. The start doing some backlinking to those via you web 2.0. I have had movement (both good an bad) depending on if I keep content fresh and updated or not. So at the least I feel that with your current links and better content will get you to the top of 3 bottom of 2, then you can go back to getting some good links for the site.

Of course I say this without knowing the competition but just going by what I have seen for some of my sites.

That is a freaking awesome approach. Great idea

At first all I did was some really good on page seo. Basically just changed the title tags and meta description. That got him to page 2. It was a word press site with a static homepage and nav bar. I did added a couple of seo plug ins too.

Then I added a blog and wrote 3 articles 650 words each using about 1% keyword density each. Each article only focused on 1 keyword.

I didn't even create a link and he was on #3 on page 1. Local business in the populated market area with very very little competition.

It is a very small niche market so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.

I did the same thing starting out, but only with the first client. It's a great way to get a YT video testimonial and he has given me 3 refferals to date. Now he happily pays me monthly and continues to be my best client. I would highly recommend doing an effective press release for your client. Great way to get a lot of backlinks and google loves them. You can submit them for free to an endless amount of submission services. Also, your client has to have a Wp site to help you out and him. Convince him this is a long term thing. " It's a marathon not a sprint " and sell him on a new site complete with plugins.

I wouldn't do it for free, I would make sure I have a credit card in hand to ding the moment you meet your end of the deal. I've run into guys who are broke, one man shows who think that once they hit the front page, they will be flooded with business. Once payday comes around, they run for the hills if they didn't get business right away.
