Still playing the waiting game, there was a minor shift in rank....nothing special so far. I expect to see some movement in the next couple of days. I'll do another update after Thanksgiving unless something big happens.

I dont see the url of the website on which the case study is performed. Are you not letting us into that info because you want to protect your client ?

1) 50 bookmarks - 50 is a usually less compared to what people blast in the very first day. Are you using BMD, or a custom tool or some other software, or even doing it manually ?

Everything we do is custom tools You'll find through all of our link building, we use less links than "Most People", more isn't always better. (Note: We make more money the more links we sell, but we are more interested in results with minimizing risks for our clients)

2) 50 profiles - are they high pr or like angela's or paul's backlinks ?

3) 18 linkwheel - cant google easily determine a linkwheel these days ?
When you say 18, you mean 18 spokes in the tier 1 ?

Yes, google can determine it (as well as most things on the internet)...it "used to work well" and then google "Fixed it" ....but we like to test things and see for ourselves. As we learned with Linklicious, conventional wisdom can be wrong.

No link building works done and yet its ranking 54 ?
That has to be low competition, not medium.

I would consider it on the lower end of medium and the domain was 15 years old with some on page optimization

We track EVERYTHING we do, we don't take peoples word for it. The forums especially have a problem with parroting information without testing it for themselves.

Its like an apple happens to fall out of a tree and hits Guy "A" in the head...

Guy A : Shouts, "Apples are falling!"

Guy B : Shouts "Apples are falling out of the sky"

Guy C : Shouts "Its Raining apples!"

Guy D : Starts selling super expensive extra strong "Apple Umbrellas"

Guys E-H : Buy "Apple Umbrellas" and tell everyone else "the old rain umbrella's aren't good enough anymore...you need super strong apple umbrella's"

I : Don't believe it, test it and find out I can save money, stay dry AND safe with a regular o' umbrella. =)

Our in house tools but you can do it through any article building service and despite "conventional wisdom" of being outdated.... uh oh, its a CLOSED link wheel.

There we go, now we are dancing with google. I was going to wait till after the holidays to update but this seemed worth an update. As expected, we dropped to 182 rank, I'll let it dance over the holidays and update you mondays or tuesday. =)

Hkseo this is probably a noob question but why did you fall so far and why arnt you worried? I know everyone calls it google dance, just wondering if you have an explanation for it? And what do you do, keep building links, or wait for it to settle or what?

Don't worry, ask away..Thats the whole point of this..for you guys to learn and us all to experiment together. =)

I'm not worried because it is very typical and I've done this thousands and thousands of times. It dropped like that, will bounce around a little bit for a week or so and then will land somewhere higher than we started and more than likely on the first page.

Yes your right, it is just a google dance, more than likely from the bookmarks because I'm not building links heavy. This site happens to be a pretty old site, they just never ever did any SEO for it, so I could definitely build heavier and it could handle it...but that wouldn't serve our purpose right now.

Conventional wisdom says to keep building, a lot of people say to. I'm going to hold off doing anything for the holidays...let it marinate for a little bit and I will update you guys with everything I do and what happens probably monday or tuesday of next week.

No, its actually a really old website, with a little on page optimization...it was already Rank#54 when we started...but it has never had SEO work done on it. So thats where we began.
