Hi.

Sorry if this is a well known fact...
At home when I search for my keyword, my site appears as the last result on page 1 of google for UK results (today at least - I think I'm dancing).
When I try it again from work or a different IP address it appears halfway down on page 2.

Up until now I've put this entirely down to dancing in the time between me checking one IP address and the other.

But I've just RDP'd and tested them both right now and its definitely giving me different results per IP address.

Can anyone confirm this? Is it common knowledge?

Cheers
VWN

Common knowledge that Google gives different results to difference IPs. They try to give you the most relevant results to you.

+1

I use a proxy to check the rankings for the country i am targeting.
I also use this online checker http://www.tools4google.com/search-google-position/keyword_tracking.php and i choose the country i want.

Wow... thats embarrassing... even just as a normal day-to-day user of google I'm surprised I didn't realise that before now :o

So even the results from the automated rank checking tools need taken with a pinch of salt?
Surely they'd show a bias toward whatever other users have checked previously... or is that over simplifying it?

The SERPS are different SERPs for every IP, google account, google browsing history etc. When doing your research try and remove most of the factors that could influence the ranks!

I recall seeing a blogpost in a 100% whitehat ;) site where they showed how somebody who searched for Egypt and visited lots of "revolution related" websites got results for the Tahrir square, while another user that usually searched for travel information got ONLY travel info without any mention of the ongoing revolution!
