HELP! I got a meeting tomorrow for a possible client!

Hey guys. So I managed to get a meeting with the owner of a Florist shop tomorrow morning. Yeah, it's small, I know, but I gotta start somewhere right? Anyways, They definitely need some SEO done on their site and they could use a facebook fan page and a twitter account that I can SMM the bajeezers out of. Anyways, my opening pitch was through facebook. Basically, I told him I had a way to increase his shop revenue and that I would love to come in and talk with him about it. I even offered to bring in the coffee ;) He replied with "I hate coffee, but would gladly take a smoothie. Come on in Friday morning and we'll talk"

Okay guys. I know what I can do and I want to get this client. How should I present everything. Should I bring my laptop set up with a presentation? Or would a tablet look better? What kind of tactics should I use!?

First of all well done for being polite in how you're asking for help and for actually getting up & doing something. Realistically you've already won in many ways.
Fantastic to get a client from fb. Study that pitch you made because it obviously worked with him, use the qualities in your pitch in the meeting.

Keep things simple so it's easier for you & him. Promise little and over deliver.

Hopefully some other members will chip in to offer some advice too. If you feel a bit nervous beforehand keep telling yourself that you already got this far and that alone is something to be proud of.

Keep doing what you're doing and don't stop, sounds like you're going in the right direction.

Here is what you need to do IMO

I never go into a meeting trying to close them right then. This way they feel you are on their side. I always tell them let me put a plan together for you based off what we just talked about.

I found found this has worked really well with me. Over the past year if I have had a face to face I have walked away closing the deal within 48 hours.

Some will tell you to close right then. It's really up to you.

When i go meet with a customer for the first time and they have not given me any info on what they want to do then i do just a little research.

Like what market they are in.
Look up key terms that get searches see if they are ranked.
look at the local directories and see if they are listed.

At the meeting I find out what they have done in the past as well as what they are doing now. The reason i do this for me is were a full service shop as we can do printing as well as run tv ads and car wraps.

This way they open up and tell you a little story. Then i ask them do they know where there business is coming from. Or what ads work.

Then after you feel you have all the info you need say well thats all great but were going to help you get triple the amount of customers you have right now.

Just an over view of what we are going to do is xxx dont want to drown you with all the details. Just like when i order flowers from you i dont care how you trim the stems i just know it looks good when i pick it up.

They will ask what is this going to cost. I just tell them let me put a custom plan together for you and get that over to you this afternoon. If they keep asking then say without putting everything together and researching the terms i would say it would be x amount. then i joke with them and say something could you work with that. sometimes i get a yes right then and we go ahead and sign. then if they are small they kind of say well thats a little high. Then you can ask what is your budget. once they tell you say thats why i like to go back to the office and work up a plan.

I always pitch the price a few hundred above what i really want a month for it.

Some people like the numbers game. Come in with a suit and tie and start spouting percent increases across the board. Never really was my style.

What page of Google is he on right now (if at all) for your local keywords? If I were you, I would do a Google search for him as if I was the customer. I'll use a nearby city for example.

I live near Houston, so I would set everything up and say, "Sir, let's pretend I'm a potential customer at home looking for roses for my girlfriend. I go to Google and type in 'Houston florist.'"

"Now it shows me all the popular florists around the area. I can go to Florist A, Florist B, Florist C, etc. But, I wouldn't be coming here because I never saw your shop on the first page. I would have gone to a competitor."

I'm sure that would show him the value of being on top. As for Facebook, that's easy to sell. I just tell people it's like a chain reaction of people sharing their business with all their friends. One person buys some flowers from his shop, then they post a photo of them on Facebook and tag the florist's page, then their friends visit the page and it happens all over again.
 
1. Think through the questions they will most likely ask you (similar to if you were doing a typical job interview) and have good/intelligent/competent answers ready.
2. Be confident - you know a million times more about this stuff then they do (in all likelihood)
3. Don't be afraid to fail! The sun will rise tomorrow and you'll have another potential client to sit in front of if you keep working hard...

  • Take the notebook PC and tablet but no projector. Use the laptop as the table itself can be a distraction. Have your battery charged - do not ask for an outlet and make sure you background looks professional.
  • Show up 15 minutes early and comment on the building and location and their work.
  • See if you can find any online ads or anything about the guy that will help connect with a backstory.
  • Tell him that other floral companies are missing out and that helps him becaue it allows you to quickly get his company to the top but as time goes on, more and more will learn what to do and competition will be harder and that service will be ongoing.
  • Lightly explain SEO to him. do not tell him about xr or SB - he dosn't care.
  • Give him a timeline. When can he start seeing results.
  • Who have you worked for in the past. Most likely no retail company but tell him that you have worked with online companies but you cannot disclose and decided to work with some in the community.
  • Shake hands when you first meet him.
  • Don't over dress, he won't.
  • Turn your ringer off.


Those are a few ideas that come to mind.

WOW!! Thanks a bunch for all of the responses guys! I'll definitely be implementing all of this stuff tomorrow morning. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes :D
 
So, been keeping an eye on your thread, how did your interview go?
 
Unfortunately not so well :/

The client completely blew me off that morning. Told me to come in the morning. I came around 11 and they were supposed to open at ten. They were still closed. I called and left a voicemail and they never responded. Called again and left a voicemail again, and they didn't respond.

Now I'm back to square one and I really need to get a client.

That is how sales goes... you have to continue to prospect to get prospects and throw a bunch of spaghetti up against the wall to see what sticks.

Get back at it and don't just get a client; get a handful of them!
 
Take out the BS and go with the five steps...

Intro
Qualify
Presentation
Close
Referrals

Go in with your stats (how many searches etc) promote the features and benefits of your seervice and go for the kill...
