Ever did something stupid in IM that you had to facepalm yourself? Share!

I was new to IM and I was doing keyword research. I found a keyword that had around 20k local searches. I checked domain and availability and what do you know! EMD is available and it's a dot com! So I quickly snatched it up, put in a CB product and made a mental list of the things that I'm going to buy with my earnings.

So here we go. Weeks went by and I'm only seeing a slow trickle of traffic for that keyword. While browsing around BHW, I found out what's wrong. I didn't choose "Exact" match. When I checked, there are only 73 local searches a month.

I facepalmed myself when I realized what internet marketing was.

I facepalmed myself again years later when I realized all the years wasted by not learning about internet marketing earlier.

This is probably the wrong place for this, but what exactly is IM?

internet marketing.

Not really a facepalm moment but more an almost shit myself moment.

Found an exact match .com for an extremely competitive keyword with almost 1 million exact searches per month. Went to the checkout to buy the domain and noticed I had misspelled the keyword in the domain.

Working for about 6-12 months in the adult industry to generate 40k hits a day and convert at around 1:1000 only to get hit with the panda update plummeting my traffic down to about 6k hits a day and conversion ratio to about 1:2000 now coz im no longer updating......

And recently decide to rip articles online, rewrite them automatically with TBS for long tails and CB products to convert at about 1:100.... thats the face palm right there, if only I was focusing on CB and article marketing this whole time :P

Oh! I have another one.

I went through days wondering why a lot of spam comments are being put up for my moderation. It was so annoying because I get all these notifications. I was wondering why I was still getting spam when I have Akismet up. It turned out that I need to activate it with a special key.

D'oh!

I facepalmed myself when I converted my hubpages account to a subdomain. My articles from a PR6 domain went to a PR0 and I lost a ton of link juice. My websites dropped from 1st to 10th in a matter of days!

Sent a script viral, found out my links weren't pointing to my pay site about 30 min into it. Was more like a facepunch than a facepalm though.

If you're wondering why I didn't check sooner, I thought CPA stats were lagging, which happens more often than you'd think.

I had the EXACT same story in mind when I read the thread title (excuse the pun).

I found a term with 20k local searches per month, low competition, emd etc. but the "exact" searches were about 100.

You're not alone on that one.

Facepalm myself for not facepalming myself when I had to facepalm myself
