hi fellow black haters!
i am soon moving to a new city. my appartment is right next to a hotel and i was thinking about how to monetize this situation. i did research and found some good ideas about offering an internet hotspot and charge for the hour. that would only work if the hotel is not offering free wifi so it depends on that. do you guys have any other ideas on how to monetize?
same more ideas i came up with:
-car rentals on the homepage of my hotspot
-cpa offers for free internet, but all leads would come from the same ip
-webcam girls on the homepage of my hotspot
-pay per instal for free internet

pls share your ideas here

Rent a room out on a nightly basis thru http://www.airbnb.com

Hmm this is a cool idea. I'd be interested in what kind of traffic and conversions you get. How do you create a homepage for a hotspot?

Isn't it possible to turn your phone into a hotspot? I wonder if you could just travel around a city and have people connect to your homepage.

The hot spot idea will work because hotels typically have low connection speeds. I have a friend that lives near a hospital and sells wifi connection (even though the hospital has a free network) and he does pretty well for doing next to nothing.

Also, food delivery from fast food places. Ask the hotel to allow you to advertise your service. I recommend a flat delivery rate, get a couple hotels and you are set. Won't make you millions, but could make you a quick buck, especially if you use stuff like coupons.

i think a phone won't have the same reach as a wifi router...plus the speed is much better with a router, too.

i haven't tried it yet but from what i have read i think you can custumize the starting page of the hotspot. you flash linux on the router and some other free hotspot programs and you are ready to go.

that sounds really interesting, do you know how many people buy his wifi on a regular day?
there are a few more hotels down the street. my new appartment is in the middle of the city center.

do i have to ask the hotel for permission to offer wifi? i mean i live next door, why would i need their approvel, right?

make shure that your isp has nothing against reselling their bandwidth.

any broadband ISP isn't going to know or care that you're doing it unless it gets out of control

i know multiple people that have a high end router with an external amplified antenna that sell to all their neighbors and they use comcast or time warner.

Make hotspot free, but lock first page with cpa content locker :) You'll earn much better with that. Also, you can put top banners, like those proxy sites do..

Ever walked past a hotel or restaurant and got a message off them off them on your phone ?

Use bluetooth to advertise your site.
Everyone within range, which will be a lot going in and out of the hotel doors will get a message.

Offer the hotspot for free. One hour free at a time, the user must enter their email address to start the service. This way you can also build an email list.

In terms of revenue, contact restaurants/businesses within a couple blocks of the hotel and offer advertising on:
- Homepage
- Banner on every page

in another thread they were talking about bluetooth advertising and said it doesn't really work, because you have to accept the bluetooth connection. do you have more experience with that?

It's true that you have to accept the connection but if you make the intro blurb inviting enough you do get click through's. The thing is, with him living next to a hotel it's really just set and forget and just leave it to do it's thing.

If you find a decent software to handle it you get full reports on how many people accept etc etc.

**Edit**
The OP could even just use bluetooth to advertise the hotspot idea...

As the hotel probably already has its own hotspot, you need to hack the WEP/WPA2 keys and use the bandwidth for web hosting services, full the room with loads of gear and use remote access to manage it, tapping to their electric would make the venture really profitable, sure I'll probably gain a few critics for suggesting this, and they will probably say this is border line criminal if not unethical but it makes for a good plot in the movies

It is possible as I saw something similar in one cafe, not really a content locker but similar...
For the same ip problem, just talk with your AM and explain him situation, I'm sure most of networks would be ok with it.

You could start a website for people staying at the hotel, listing tourist-y things, city info, etc. Through the website you could also sell wifi, food deliveries, whatever.
