Thoughts On a Mac Book Pro?

I use windows... But I still think mac is cool... But you cant run most of the im tools in it. Keep windows for working, buy mac just because its cool.

Windows PCs have two advantages: you can do some cool stuff on them because of the range of software available, and they're cheap.

The bottom line is that Windows is a terribly designed OS from a technical standpoint and that's why there are all the problems. Yes, you might be able to maintain a good machine if you run 3 different antivirus apps in the background constantly and reformat regularly, but you shouldn't have to take those precautions. You shouldn't have to reformat unless you want to for some reason.

The file system on a decent OS doesn't degrade randomly over time and there shouldn't be a registry that can get corrupted; random browser exploits shouldn't be able to silently escalate to root; the browser shouldn't be shipped as part of the kernel FFS!

The reason that most people are more efficient on Windows is because that's what they know. If you spend some time kicking around on different OSs and desktop paradigms, you'll start to find Windows quite maddeningly inefficient from the perspective of desktop design too.

However if you spend most of your time working in Windows-only apps then it makes sense to use a Windows platform. You use the best tool for each particular job.

Macs are like buying a BMW over a Chevy (windows) -- The BMW runs like a champ, all of the time, and will last forever AND hold it's value, but the chevy will be easier to fix when the time comes and addons are easier to come by.

Only reason I just bought a new windows box is because that's what all of my SEO automation software is built for

I have a Mac Book Pro, and it is great for when you are on the go. The battery lasts a very long time. I use gotomypc with it. Works great. Also the RDP client is easy to use when working with VPS / Servers I won't switch back to a windows based laptop. The mac wins hands down for portability and ease of use.

But..., when I am at the office I prefer to use my win 7 box.

You're probably one of those die-hard PC fans that doesn't even know why you like them and hate macs. It's just the "cool thing to do" in your head so you go along with it.

I really don't understand why every time someone posts a thread about a Mac or PC, it turns into this flame war where everyone is talking bad about the other system. It's a fuckin computer. Either you like Mac or you like PC, who gives a shit?

It reminds me of when people in my area (Chicago) argue about the Cubs and Sox. Both sides sound retarded and it goes nowhere. Plus, it's just a damn baseball team just like now we're talking about computers. I know it really matters what other people like....

I absolutely <3 my Macbook Pro. Anyone who says they suck compared to a PC is probably just too used to using Windows and can't wrap their head around the logic of a Mac. It took me a few weeks when I got mine to understand it, but once I did I was able to work far faster on it than my PC.

Considering I work from bed, I can't tell you what a lifesaver it is to have a light-up keyboard and no fan ventilation on the bottom. If I tried to use my PC in bed it would overheat in a matter of minutes because some dumb ass engineer thought it would be a good idea to put the fan ventilation on the bottom of a laptop, which no one would ever use in bed obviously...

I own both a MacBook Pro and a PC, and I can tell you my MBP gets far more use than my PC. I only use my PC to run programs, that's it.

If you have ze monies, getting a MacBook Pro is a sure bet.

Plus once you have an aluminum encased laptop, you'll never go back to downright trashy plastic.

I agree with Mac for pleasure and Win for business. I'm a designer and I use both. Macs are sexy but they are also overpriced. There are some software only for macs, and some that are only for windows. I switched because there are better design programs on the mac. If you're really used to windows I think you'll be better of sticking to that specially since it's cheaper. BUT if you have a specific reason to go for a mac (just cashed out?) then go for it. It's very sexy and user friendly. + You can install windows on it and enjoy the best of both worlds (msg me if you need help with that).

No matter if you are poor or a millionaire. Macs still ARE overpriced. If they put a 80 bucks worth of laptop equipment in there and glaze it over with a nice shiny coat and give it a price of 400 bucks, its overpriced.
