Case Study: Testing the effects of excessive backlinking

Everytime i spam links to my sites, the site goes down. Sometimes even -300 or more positions, however after 7 days it starts to climb back up and most of the time outranks it's original position.

I've also notived, that when i do massive blasts (20k links sb/xrumer/vseo) and i use around 50 - 100 related kws the site is moving up slowly, i don't see any hardcore drop in rankings.

Nice thread people...I have been doing something that is very similar as well. I blast scrapebox links to one of my blogs on a daily basis. But, the difference is that I use only unique domains and I am very careful about avoiding domains that I have already got a backlink from.

The results have been very good so far. For a fairly competitive keyword (CPC is around $4), I was at 21 and have managed to move up to 15. It has only been a week since I started this project. I send about 300-600 unique domain scrapebox comments everyday.

Interestingly, the blog hit #1 in UK results but it lagging behind in U.S results. But the blog only appeals to the U.S. audience. So, I really need it to get on page 1 U.S Serp's.

Anyways, let's see how this goes.

I an effort to keep building a variety of links I have joined LinkMarket. I'm going to try some reciprocal linking. I've never really tried this method. I can only request 5 a day unless I pay, but i'll give it a try.

I'm genuinely interested in how you came to find out that this could be true. I'd like to see some evidence if possible, even if it is just your own experience.

Hard evidence no as we are really just trying to reverse engineering google
But by my experience yes the more completive a niche is the fewer terms a page can/will rank for

Seems most of this is based on a sliding scale with many factors influencing the end result

I've already tested link velocity. I have over 100 sites that I rank number 1 for and throughout the years I found that link velocity penalty does exist, but only if you do too much at the same time. It needs to be a gradual increase. For example I have a site that I started two months ago, the site has a mixture of links. Yahoo shows 110,000 links and I'm ranking page 2 for a super competitive keyword. The main site has over 1.8million back links.

There's still a slim chance that the main page will pop up again on google, but usually through experience throwing more links at it doesn't help.

I've read your case studies in the past and the information you pass on to the readers is not accurate, especially since i've been blasting my sites with thousands of links a day with positive results. I'm actually surprised how many people don't test this themselves and only listen to people who do case studies.

I also rank for very competitive keywords but not through excessive linking.

I'm testing the excessive linking because I don't know what will happen.

I'm not bashing on your case study, just giving you an insight. I can guarantee you if you've taken a different approach you would have different results. Some people say wait couple months/year to start blasting, but this is also not true. All you need is high powered diverse links to stabilize your site and within that week you can gradually increase the link velocity.

I've also tried blasting high PR private network links (10k including sitewide), which got my site sandboxed. Same results as yours, the main page went missing and the sub pages outranked it.

I had the exact same effect: home page appearing but subpages curiously ranking on page 2,3,4 etc. for the main keyword. I think this has to be the sandbox and most likely you won't get out for a while.

He'll need to do a lot more than what his doing know and other methods to sandbox

Update: Just finished checking links and created another 5200 scrapebox links.

Some of these free lists have URLs in that i've already dropped links on. So be aware of that.

Yahoo sitexplorer shows 2,728 backlinks. It goes up by the hour though.

Are you tracking the amount of links showing up vs the amount of links that your software says it has produced?

When your done it would be great to know the amount of links you actually have vs the amount you should have according to your programs your running.

I just wonder how great all of these systems are that clame they are the end all save all.

4,900 links have stuck out of all blasts since june 20 till now

Some of these free lists have URLs in that i've already dropped links on. So be aware of that.

You can easily avoid this by removing those domains. Assuming that you have saved the ones you have posted to, just do a Import to compare that is built in to scrapebox. It will remove URL's that you have already posted to....

Hey awesome thread.

I decided to do a small contribution and run a small linkwheel blast with Linkwheel Bandit. I see a lot of Scrapebox/Xrumer type links already so I figured I'd do some web 2.0 properties.

I'll leave your linkwheel running in the software a while in case any of the properties die out. The software will automatically heal them by creating a new web 2.0 property in its place.

I attached a .txt file with the some of the links and I'll PM you the report that has all the login credentials, etc.
