Recommend a shopping cart

My mates mum wants to have a little site supporting her ebay stuff (she sells personalised cards) Anyone recommend a decent shopping cart such as Zen, Oscommerce etc, it will need to be easy to manage, secure (as it can be!!) and adaptable without the need for massive amounts of programming knowledge as my mate can help her with the basics.

Payment gateway intergration needs to be a must for something like paypal.

Havent a clue what is working these days as its been many a year since I last used anything like this (oscommerce) so though I would ask you guys whats the market leaders these days.

I've always personally used Volusion, Big Commerce, or custom carts.

Depends on your mom's needs.

If for starters then,Wordpress will also work fine
there are special eCommerce themes/plugins for WP

but , Magneto is the best of all.

I have recently been working with OpenCart and it seems to be a nice commerce solution. There are some great themes about and it seems very quick. The admin interface seems very user friendly and wouldn't take long to pick up.

Magento would definitely be my first choice though!

Magento seems good but has a steeper learning curve, it is also more resource hungry so needs better hosting. How about looking at Joomla with Virtuemart plugin?

Magento is definately a good ecommerce system, but for some people can it be difficult to find their way around. Specially if you want to modify the template yourself.

It's a free CMS system and most web hosting companies have it as a 1-click install.

The newest version is v. 1.5.0.1 or something like that.

There are heaps of add ons and themes on their official homepage. Just search for magento.

use wordpress + eCommerce/ewcid/shopperpress plugin

I've found most of the developers have made me a site end up using Magento in the end.

If you are completely new to eCommerce, shopify is pretty good for newbies. It isn't free, but its pretty quick to set up but it limits you.

Cactushop is good, very easy to set up, unlimited products and options and good price too.

I have used it about 6 times and never had an issue.
