Just because you don't see your profile links in yahoo siteexplorer doesn't mean that search engines are not giving your website link juice for them.

Search engines don't pay attention to pages that have no useful content in them, so trying to get them indexed is a pointless exercise.

Stop panicking over seeing your backlinks "indexed". It means nothing.

The websites that I worked on in the past 3-4 years have always increased in ranking when I create profile links and they don't appear in a backlink checker.

Google can crawl a new domain/page in seconds when you ping it. From that point onwards they are aware of the backlink. Google doesn't want to show a useless page in their index, so they won't index the page usually. But you should not assume that they don't use that backlink to help rank your website.

Backlink checker tools never show all of your links either.

I've never seen anyone provide a reason for this idea that you need to have your links "indexed" in order for them to be worth something.

Can you prove that you need backlinks "indexed" in order for them to give link juice to your website?

^ I totally agree with you. People need to stop worrying about getting indexed and just continue building backlinks. None all your backlinks will get indexed no matter how hard you try.

i think you should read a wso on this... by a guy called Mike Burngasser / Google Domination Method i havent read it - yet - but my friend did and agrees with it.

I'm in no doubt that getting your profile links crawled often and adding useful unique content to the page will help. I always socially bookmark mine as well as place them into RSS feeds and ping them. I'm currently pinging a list right now at pingfarm.com.

But what I see is people believing that if they don't see their profile links in yahoo sitexplorer then they think that their link was useless. This simply isn't true. As long as Google has seen your link then it will use it when calculating your website's rank. It doesn't have to be "indexed", to be seen.

I have some webproxy sites, in the past with only 10 backlinks one of these get PR3 from google.
Today I try get rank for a domain with 200+ backlinks and I dont get any PR or score.
Google is strange but I think that all is based also on Alexa rank

PR is really weird as well. Often the score we need is delayed by a few weeks or months, and even Matt Cutts claims that it doesn't accurately reflect rank.

We only use it because its the only score we have to check.

It doesn't matter if they show up as "indexed" in yahoo sitexplorer or not.

Building links to your links will always be a good thing but I personally feel it is overkill to use SB on profile backlinks. Use it on your site or a web 2.0. Just submit a list of your links in an rss feed to wherever you can and ping them. Or if you know another good way share it with us.

Personally I use SB to get my profiles indexed. It's also some kind of check for my current AA lists, so I get double profit - get my profiles indexed and my lists clean from dead urls.

Just check profiles time by time for dead ones.

Haha, save your 2 cents.

A) I haven't seen Toolbar PR updated universally in a year - so that's basically worthless

B) NOTHING id based on Alexa rank, thats a very small sample size taken by those who allow Alexa to install their toolbars/spyware - if your not doing 5K UVs per day this really is not an accurate indication of anything.

Yeah that could really be true but still hard to prove, I just use some automatic services for pinging them and indexing them, as you said it is a waste of time to try indexing those links so automation all the way

Yes i agree with the OP because i have seen that profile links in the google webmaster tools but not in yahoo site explorer.
One more thing that i created a site that had average competition. I used to make some high pr profile links and the site was indexed within 7 days. when i checked the backlinks in site explorer there were just 3 links indexed out of 150. But still that links were also helping me a lot which not appeared in site explorer.

Why should we take your advice to be true? Furthermore, why does this even deserve its own thread with no case study? There are hundreds of threads on this subject that already exist. You could have added your opinion to one of them without further clogging up the boards with useless fluff. As an aside I will also tell you that you are wrong. I HAVE done the testing. You contradict yourself at every turn. I think you are well intentioned but you lack the ability to express your thoughts clearly. I think what you are trying to say is that Yahoo site explorer is not an accurate metric of the links that the search engines index (privately or publicly). However you even state that you take efforts to get your links indexed/crawled. We all know that all of our links wont be visibly indexed. Are you still going to argue that "trying to get them indexed is a pointless exercise" as your original post stated? That is the statement that I disagree with. Funny thing is, you disagree with yourself about 3 or 4 posts down as I pointed out above. All I'm asking is that you think before you post. Ask yourself if you are clearly making your point. Look, since you seem so interested in what I say instead of actually adding value to the thread i'll try make this as easy as possible for you to understand.

I do not aim to get my backlinks indexed. It does not matter whether Google or yahoo shows a backlink in their data. Trying to get them to show up in backlink checkers is a pointless exercise. However, that does not mean you should not try to get your backlinks crawled as often as possible. In fact, I reguarly bookmark, ping and place them in RSS feeds for submission.

But whether they show up in a backlink checker makes no difference in my experience. Profile links have been my bread and butter of off-page SEO ever since Angela first started her packets. In those days, I didn't even ping my backlinks but they still worked a treat. That is my experience with them.

Obviously, if you have some credible evidence showing that a link is only taken into account if it shows up in a backlink checker then i'd be really interested in seeing it. Either way, I do all I can to ping and get my backlinks crawled anyway. But again, regardless, it does not matter if they do or do not show up in a backlink checker.

It is pretty simple stuff, this is something you should know if you've been doing this a long time.
