Can you possibly outrank Wikipedia?

If you check google.com (and even its other geo specific sites like .co.uk, .co.in, etc) then it has the 1st position for "dogs" given to wikipedia --

But at the same time, in Google.com's Videos, NEWS, Shopping, Books, Places, Blogs, Realtime, Discussions, Recipes (^ouch^), and Patents sections (as you can see these on your left-hand side on a Google.com search result page), the first positions are taken up by other sites for the same keyword. So you can beat wiki for the KW "dogs" using these sections.

Target these sections and beat wiki (although it isn't occupying the top spot there) tomorrow if you can.

Those sections don't really bring in as much traffic though.

Many of those sections still have adword ads, so there must be money-making opportunities :)

Targeting "dogs" for the 1st spot on google.com wouldn't necessarily bring you targeted traffic as far as money is concerned (IMHO), but some of these sections can get you better paying(?) traffic than the main .com section for such KWs.

want a quick PWN of Wiki! get a link on that wiki you want to outrank, its not really hard to do, I have a worker do this for fun lol,, (do a search) any ways, mix that with links from other wikis of the same niche, mix in some regular PR links and Bang! Wiki offers pretty good traffic also, make sure when you add the links you make your site not look so promotional. remove ads. its worth it in the long run! Goodluck!

And why do you want to go for the most general type keyword such as "dogs" for example? Just add another word to it and beat established sites like wiki hands down.

For example: dog collar, dog food, dog health... even a PR-0 insignificant web page beats a wiki page (PR-5) for such keywords... if you use better KWs than these then your webpage has the ability beat any other site including wiki (of course it needs a lot of other parameters to look into -- eg., SEO).

Moral: Wiki can be easily out-ranked -- but you need to look into other & better KWs. Don't insist on using only the top general keyword, be a bit more flexible.

Thank you :) Let's see what I can do :9
