Directory Submission... Effective?

I'm new to SEO, but I'm looking to do whatever needs to be done. I've been checking out the directory submission method. After doing about 10 of them myself I got really bored.

I've seen places that will do 100 of them for $5 and that seems like a good way to save some time. So these are my questions:

1) Is mass directory submission considered blackhat SEO?

2) Will this just help me get a higher PR? (I've seen some of the directories have up to PR6)

3) Is this even worth my time and effort... or money?


If it is really all that effective, I'm wondering why I don't see my competitors listed in the directories. I'm sure a lot of people don't know anything about SEO, but still you'd expect some kind of effort.

I dont feel that they have done much to my sites (I have only submitted to crap directories tho, but I still submit them. Search the forum for Directory Power Submitter and you will save your money, time and effort.

If you're trying to get traffic from directory submissions you're going to have a tough time. You'll be much better getting traffic through social news and social bookmarking sites, or by working to increase your site's ranking on the search engine. Of course mass directory submissions help by increasing your backlink count, but IMO that's about all the good it does.

Yeah I'm going to work on those too. It's just much more difficult. I just want to make sure I am not leaving out a huge part of driving traffic.

you can submit to major directory with selecting good relative category.Still now it is important for seo.

They are most likely using software to send out submissions. I have high doubt that those links will be very effective for your site. Best scenario, they did no harm and increase your ranking for $5's worth. Most likely scenario, they slightly lowered your ranking than what it was before.

C'mon guys I believe you can do mass blog comments and profile comments, however you need to be extremely good at it to make it worthwhile. As for mass directory submissions, you also need to be expert at it and know how to do it like a pro. I think this is why most top seo companies are thriving because they know how to create high quality links faster than their competition.

So your strategy is to post two links to your site on blogs every day. For the social bookmarking, how to do you get good links that will be up for a long time?

I've done an aweful lot of article directories. I used to post 100 article directories directly to what I was promoting, but then I stopped doing that. I had a lot of problems with google's link spam detection I think. I'd do 100 backlinks (typically within a day period) and though I had good results with some pages -- I had alot of pages disappear from google's serps as well (not the whole domain getting banned, just the promoted page getting banned).

Nowadays I just go with a small amount of quality directories (i.e. ezinearticles, goarticles, amazines, squidoo, hubpages and about 5 more) ... and then I do the rest of the directories with links to the top 10 quality posts. Since I started doing that, I hadn't had a page drop out of the SERPS since.

FYI, my articles were all quality spun, not all the same.

I agree... I think as *one piece* of a larger strategy, directories are vital, they can be extremely effective.

Directory is one of the important methods of Off page SEO,Its quite effective.You need to submit your site to the directories.When some body is searching using your related key word, your site is getting listed.This is help you to get more visitors.

Yes! very much laughs here too!!!

I know fact for directorys work, get few year old domain go after keyword that is harder then get about 1,500 directorys and submit then wait 5months and do nothing else and you will all see how good they work.

but if you like thinking that it no works then LOL at yoU!

overall directorys = very much working for serp
