Hey guys, so I ran across a very interesting article in the May 23 double issue of Fortune magazine that
may have a huge effect on internet marketers as a whole in a couple of years. And may put a couple of
services like deathbycaptcha temporarily out of business. At this year's Rice competition, a really
prestigious business plan contest, a team from the University of Michigan has basically devised a
new captcha service called "Are You Human." The team ranked number two in the competition and
plans to raise $1,000,000 in venture capital. Their plan is to imbed a simple game that requires you
to do a small task in order to access the website. While this project probably won't be up for a
couple of years, it will still greatly impact automation tools and services. This simple company
could absorb mass amounts of your time once their product catches on, but I'm sure it won't
take long before someone programs new software to combat the service. Just thought I'd share
since it will probably affect most people on this forum.

I don't really see that plan to be feasible. I mean, imagine every visitor needing to play a game or do a simple task before entering the site. I'm sure the internet would be a turn-off and visitors return would be affected.

Even if it manage to be implemented, I'm sure someone out there will find a way to bypass it.
When captcha first appear, spammers had a problem. Then decaptcha services make their appearance.

In softwares too, remember? It was first serial number, then they came cracking, then dongle-fooling.
I'm sure there's a way out.

Well I don't know exactly what kind of sites they'll be targeting. And I can't imagine that the game would be that tedious. Probably just a quick" put shapes here" kind of thing. And I agree that someone will make another bypass service, but it may not be until a couple of weeks afterward. Their plan has some kind of merit in the eyes of business execs, they did get number two in the contest. And there were definitely some big fish there.

Yeah of course it will eventually get debunked. Just wondering if it will be a temporary setback for some people before it does.

Well they probably won't be able to break it until they know what they're working with or unless they use a site like flibbertigibbet was talking about as a template.

Once a new way of system becames widespread enough - there will be antidote for that. If you want unbreakable - keep it closed and unique for each use.

I create a service called Humanoid. Where indians/cheap labor will play these 'are you human' games kind of like decaptcher does.
